Okay so I applied to a bunch of places for camera retail (as a summer job, could use the money before heading off to college) and I got a call back today from Blacks (http://www.blackphoto.com (http://www.blackphoto.com/)). My interview is in a week and was just wondering what sort of knowledge I'll have to know to be qualified (if I even need any...).

I know the basics of how a camera works and what lenses to use for certain types of pictures (but not really all the mechanisms inside either cameras or lenses), also I know the difference between models and camera terminology. And I consider myself pretty good at approaching and communicating with people.

That's probably enough right?

I just don't know what they'll ask me at the interview if they'll even ask me about my knowledge of cameras. Any ideas/tips?

If this is for a sales position I would guess if you know the difference between a stop sign and an F stop you will be more qualified than some camera sales people.

I bet you will do fine. Be yourself and remember this is your first sales opportunity. You will be selling yourself. Just don't act like a know-it-all and try to hard. Good Luck!

They'll be looking for you to be motivated in sales more than offering advise, although giving good advice will often bring in return customers.

You should also be comfortable with being numerate.

Exactly. I worked for a Ritz Camera for two years and half the employees knew nothing about cameras when they started, but were hired because they had "enthusiastic personalities" and could learn anyway.

That said, either have the demonstrated ability to sell a camera with add-ons and the ability to provide good explanations of camera features, or be really upbeat and chipper and maybe even claim you are going to school for a business degree. That wasn't too cynical, was it?
