Matthias,

I really enjoy your insect photos. The sharpness and depth of field are excellent.

How do you get your subject to stay put?

You must be rather close to the insect, how close?

Thank you for posting. I have tried several insects myself with limited success. Which is why I asked the questions above.:) I did have a couple of drab butterflies that I was approaching just to see if I could get a photo like yours. As I got about 3 feet away they saw me an opened their wings to show that they were a very striking blue. I snapped a couple shots but as I got closer they took off and the next few minutes would have been great on video as I tried to chase them to take a photo. They landed everywhere, even on my head, but no more photos were captured. Here is my first and last shot. ;)

Hi Eric,

the insect s are 10 - 10 cm away from the camera. I use the 500D and 250D Canon lenses for my 90iS.

And i sit down all insect´s fly away and wait 10 or 15 min. the insect´s sit down and the chance to make
Photo´s are big. So you need time and perseverance

Eric, you butterflies are nice, but the background are not the best. So the colors are not so good to see.
