I got a $40 gift card for christmas. So today i figure "hey, lets go get some more memory for my vaction"
I call them up and make sure they've got what i want...sandisk ultra II in 1gig, how much.
He comes back on the phone a min. later and says "yeah we've got it, it's 109.99 plus a $20 mail in rebate"
I figure "well, i knew it would be too much but hey, ya cant get everything ya want".
So i take my 30 min drive to best buy, and find the regular card, eventually, at 109.99.
I get one of the pimply faced teenagers over and say "Dont you have the Ultra II version?"
He says "Yeah it's over here". Aparently they figure that this is such a holy grail of a card  that they lock it up in the case where they keep all the crappy lenses. Only, today i noticed they had a decent lens in stock finally. It was the 28-135 IS. And guess what! it was only $599! What a deal!
Anyways, they wanted $140 for this darn CF card. I say...uhh, no thanks. GO home empty handed and an hour short on life.
And incase your wondering, thats $90 at newegg.com

That WOULD be the sensible thing to do. I had a couple of bad experiences there myself and haven't looked back. Circuit City, CompUSA and Micro Center workout just fine. Some people, however, just seem to like to have something to gripe about! :)

Here in NZ we get most things first, its all part of being first in the time zone, and having a very small but relativly wealthly population that works well as a test for product launchs.
But for some reason the latest CF cars are impossible to get from retailers, and what is avliable is usualy 2-3 times more expensive that it is else where. Given that we have no import duties and only 12.5% GST its simply not acceptable, or rationaly explainable.
I refuse to by CF cars or other memory from retail stores.
However I have found a local www.trademe.co.nz seller who has proven to be very reliable, and sells most things at very reasonable price, about the same as over seas prices.

How about not commenting then? That would be a relief to the rest of us.

How about the fact that the zit-faced teens at CC are worse then the ones at BB because they make money off of you when they sell you crap.

Scottes: Anyone who does not like reading my posts are under no mandate to read them.
TQ: Maybe the CCs by you work differently, but in MN they do not work on commission. I was in theprocess of buying $2,000 worth of tv/audio equipment when I remembered I had to be somewhere else 20 minutes prior. I asked the guy who had spent the last half hour with me putting together the system for his card--as I wanted to be sure he got the commission. He said not to worry as they don't work for commission any more. Your disdain for the employees at CC and BB is rather obvious. Maybe that influences the service you get at those stores...

I believe they both function similarly, i.e. CC salespeople do not work on commission either. At least that's what I was told when we were shopping for our new TV in both stores.
I do believe they get credit to the degree that if they're not selling enough, it can work against them, but they don't earn anything extra as a result of your purchase.

That may be the case, they may have changed their policy. I know my friend use to work at best buy and they recently switched their own policy. The people, kids, wernt actually getting a direct commission form the sales, but they would get bonuses depending on how their department did.
It really wouldnt bother me if they wernt too pushy, which at best buy they arnt as it's actually hard to find help. But what REALLY annoys me, is that once you do find the help you realize how unhelpful they are.
Just go stand by the cameras for an hour ifyour bored and listen to the BS that spews out of their mouth. Typically, the only accurate information they give is the stuff that is printed on the little info tag under the product.

I guess I'm used to knowing more about what I'm buying than those that are selling it. I do a lot of research on what I buy--as I'm sure most people here do (at least when it comes to camera gear). I realize the people at BB or CC aren't photogs. If I really want photog-level info on equipment, I go to a local place (West Photo) that caters to pro photogs. It's the place that wouldn't sell me a 550ex flash for my 10D because they said I wouldn't be happy with it due to inconsistent results. If I insisted on buying one, they said I should rent one from them (for $5) and test it out first.
There is just no way that a place like CC or BB can afford to staff photog-level staff at the prices they charge (across the store).
