Actually got a few images from the magicial Newfoundland trip online.

I made prints for Christmas and used Scottes NR/Sharpening Mask techniques extensively.

We were under an Eagles nest (I'll post those... someday)

When we drifted right into a a run of capelin.. essentially a Newfy Sardine ;)

The water was alive with the tiny bait fish, it looked like you could walk on them;

Gerald, our Captain and guide, piloted the skiff into the masses,
"get the net!" he shouted. My father scrambled to the Bow and went right to work.

In the end, the holes in the net were not a hindrance :)

Very interesting shots, although not the prettiest pictures you've posted. Good work.

I suppose Smelt is probably the closest thing actually now that you mention it Mills.
For our captain Gerald,. the Native Newfoundlander.. this was a HUGE deal!
The arrival of the Capelin is followed by everything else that of course eats them.

As I mentioned.. we were in that particular spot because we had asked him to guide us to the Eagles nest...

But once there.. it was everyman working for Gerald to get Capelin as fast as possible..

He was piloting the boat and shouting to us with a mixed sense of urgency and glee,.. and he kept shouting at me.. "Get some shots of the Capelin!"

Needless to say.. he has prints of all of these pics :mrgreen:

I hate the smell of Capelin rolling in. I live about 500Meters from the shore and i can smell them very potent in the summer.

I remember as a kid in Newfoundland carrying a fistfull of them all dried and salted in my pants pocket. They were a "fastfood" snack in those days. If I smell smoked capelin now in a specialty store, I'm 12 years old and running the shores. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
