Well i took the plunge and bought a pelican case model 1650 ( which by the way is a GREAT deal right now at amazon for $206.14 FREE shipping / no tax (inside dimensions: 28.88"L x 17.88"W x 1.75"H (lid) over 8.62"H (Base)
http://www.casesbypelican.com/app-1650.htm

Here is a picture of what i have in it so far:

http://www.jacobthephotographer.com/images/pelican-alienbees-setup.jpg

2x AB800's
1x AB1600
1x ABR800
4 reflectors ( but could cut down to 3 )
2 lowel (modified barn doors to fit over the reflectors )
4 ab grids that fit perfectly inside the barndoors
4 power cords
1 canon rebel xti (silver surfer) with 70-200 2.8L IS lens attached

I have 2 other rebel bodies, an 85mm 1.8, 50mm 1.8, 17-70 sigma

So my question is before i go pickin and pluckin my foam is there a better way to lay this out?

Should i just put my cameras and lenses into a seperate backpack and use this strictly for the AB strobes power cables and other accessories?

I also have a strobist setup with 4 vivitar strobes, mini foldable bogen light stands, 4 umbrellas that i carry in an easton bat bag ( but i might get another pelican case.. although i like the portability of the bat bag )

So I call upon the godfathers of pelican cases to give me some pointers before i measure once and cut twice. The strobes snug all the way to the top so there is no double leveling things. I could have gotten a bigger case BUT i wanted to be able to stick this in the trunk of my car and also not weigh 300 lbs.. my back aint what it used to be.. boy gettin old is FUN!!!

Thanks in advance!
JTP

P.S. My light stands and softboxes any suggestions as to what to do with those? i pretty much just keep them out or should i get a big bag to haul that crap too?

I have several Pelican cases. I never use the foam, over
time it will fall apart and stick to your equipment, a
real mess I know because it happened to me. I buy the
dividers and they work very well, however they are not cheap.

You probably are going to want a separate case for your cameras. Trying to stuff everything in one is a bit impractical. I've had a foam lined case since 1975 that holds my F-1 and FTbN....there has been no problem with the foam breaking down or sticking to the cameras.

By the looks of things if you do it like that there will be no "walls" of foam between items which defeats the purpose, Make that for lighting only

Not the exact model you have, but Neil_R shows the layout of his 1560 here....

Here is my setup with the same case with the dividers, 4-1600, 4-std rflectors, 4-sport reflectors, 5-super clamps, 2-6 PW's, tape, zip ties, safety cables, cords and connectors
everything is secure in its spot so not much movement
