I've posted here before that I got totally frustrated trying to calibrate a "budget" 22" Samsung 2220WM LCD monitor with a ColorVision Spyder2 Pro. I tried every recommended setting and calibrated under every lighting condition imaginable, but I could never achieve a good calibration. I finally gave up and hobbled along using only the monitor's OSD adjustments.
On a whim, I saw a Spyder2 on eBay and I placed a "low-ball" bid on it. My timing must have been right because I have a brand new Spyder2 puck on my desk now. I reinstalled my Spyder2 Pro software, reset the monitor controls to factory defaults, ran the calibration routine and... Voila! The display never looked so good! Grays look gray, whites look white and blacks look black. No discernable color cast. So, I'm thinking that my first Spyder2 puck must have been defective and I wasted more time than I care to mention trying to get good calibration results from it.
FYI-- I used 2.2 Native and I specified the white luminance to be 120, the black setting I left blank. The Spyder2 gave me a black setting of 0.53.
