View Full Version : Extracting Exif Data whilst browsing?

Whilst i was browsing these forums i thought how cool it would be if i could right click (ctrl click) an image and have an option to view/extract EXIF.
Is there any browser pluggins or software that can do this? I realize that an image would have to have the data embedded.
Right now i have to save a file to disk and open it with photoshop to view this data.
Just wonderin'

Doesn't work. It says EVERY image has no EXIF info. Looks cool if it would work...

You can view it with Windows XP, and fill in the fields that allow that; Artist, copyright, etc. Is that what you want to do? Just right click and choose "properties."

That's with Windows Explorer. We want to see the EXIF info when viewing photos online.

If there is exif info in the image that program will show it. Many people use the save for web function in photoshop which wipes out exif info.

Try this photo: http://racefamily.racinglines.com/Galleries/2003/CART/Portland/Friday/pir_friday2003_0001.htm
Full EXIF info available via Breezebrowser shown below the photo. ViewEXIF shows squat.
EDIT: Well darn. Now that server's down...Anyway. I tried it on photos with known EXIF info and it said it was unavailable.
RE-EDIT: :) Okay now back online. Anyway, the only thing altered on this photo was by Breezebrowser. If ViewEXIF can't read that photo's EXIF info then it's pretty much useless.

I can't read exif info in that image in ACDsee or Photoshop or View exif. Or Breezebrowser for that matter.
nice picture by the way.

Very interesting. I was not aware that BB stripped photos dry of EXIF info.

I've been using the ViewEXIF plug-in that bgmoore recommended for viewing EXIF within the browser for several months now without a problem. I wonder if it is only compatible with some versions of IE?
Very nice and customizable too, so you can pick which EXIF fields you want displayed by default.

Yeah. It works fine. I am just very suprised that BB removes the EXIF info when HTML'ing a gallery. And yes, extremely customizable.

RFMsports, with the default settings, the copy of Breezebrowser I have doesn't strip exif info from jpgs converted from raw. You must have some setting that is doing it. I'm not very familiar with the program.

That's not the deal...BB's HTML gallery creating option is what stripped the EXIF. On that link above the ONLY thing that was done to the photo was to HTML it with BB. The original is a JPEG.

Try the software listed above. It's pretty cool if you can find photos with any EXIF info left! ;)

Right click the image (or Mac equivalent) and save the photo (I use the desktop).
Open the photo with your favorite image editor/viewer that can display the EXIF data.
View the data (if it's there).

With the little plug-in above (PC only) all you have to do is right-click on the photo that's on your screen, select ViewEXIF and voila! If the photo has EXIF data, you'll see it immediately.

Once installed you ctrl click a picture and open in new tab. Then you ctrl click the tabbed image and choose EXIF.

Try Opanda IExif, the freeware could show you all of EXIF data in an image.

EDIT: My lack of patience stopped me from reading the entire instructions which is why it failed the first time. You have to install two things. Opanda IEXIF 1.8 and then the Firefox plug in. Works great now, thanks.

FYI - The above link appears to be broken now, however it is available here: http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/download.htm
