Hello all!
This forum is great. You guys are really helpfull. I recently just purchased the g2 and so far am absolutely loving it! Last night the northern lights were amazing. I tried to take some shots, but I really didn't have much luck. I am quite an amatuer I guess, but am trying to be creative. I had it set at 15" and it was at a F2 I do believe. I am wondering if I can get any good shots with the camera alone, or is a tele lens required? Any tips would be a great help....Thanks to all!

Cool, nothern lights.

My tips would be to use a tripod to avoid blur due to camera shake, and manually focus to infinity. I don't know what shutter/aperture stops to use, I think the ones you're using should be ok (judge from those you already shot)

I don't know about focal length though... tele is fine, but sometimes, when we see something overwhelming and take a snapshot of it, there's no reference of its size in the picture. You could always describe it to the viewer, but "a picture tells you more than a 1000 words".

I'd like to see your photos ;-)

Thank you, I will try again tonight with the tri-pod to see if I can get some good shots. If unsuccessfull I think I may have to look into a tele lens. I know this camera has great potential! Thanks again, and any more responses are more than welcome!

WOW! Those pictures are spectacular! Thank you for posting them. I didn't get a chance last night, I didn't see them come out. I am patiently waiting though. Thanks again, and if anyone else has anyother advice or perhaps more photo's please share!
