I installed CS last week. It has been running fine until last night. Now, when I open it goes through everything until the work space appears and it begins building the directory. Then, I get an error message stating that the file exists- there is a tmp file listed. I click ok and another window says that part of the required application library failed to load and I will need to reinstall the application.
Here is what I have done that has not worked.
Re-installed just photoshop cs
Re-installed all of CS
Did uninstall and then reinstalled savng only the activation information
Searched the photoshop site and did the following:
Deleted the named tmp file (several times) emptied trash, rebooted
Deleted the preferences
It is still doing exactly the same thing
Please help. I have a job to get out.
Thanks
Pam

Try rebuilding the preferences. Start PS, and hold down Control, Alt, and Shift at the same time - for as long as necessary. You should get a message asking if you wish to rebuild the preferences. Say Yes.
If this works then go into Edit... Preferences and re-set all your settings.

Hello,
I tried that, too. I finally unistalled everythign, reinstalled, reactivated and it still is doing it. I called photoshop. It will cot 39.00 to just talk to tech support. I went to their site and did the troubleshooting for activation errors- that is where that error shows up on their webiste. That included checking the computer for errors-there were none detected. I turned off everything except basic start up needs and tried that. Didn't work.
I have a brand new computer-a dell inspiron 1150. It has more than enough of the needed factors.
I hope someone else has managed to work through this and willhave a solution.
thanks,
pam

Wow, this is turning into quite an ordeal. I called tech support and since it is an installation/activation problem, there is not cost. We spent nearly an hour working on the system. This was quite an experience as I was on my cell phone with the laptop- part of the time in the parking lot at ballet class, had to stop several times in route to and from to pull over and type. Finally, we thought we had it. Reactivated and again- THE SAME ERROR message! ARGH!
The activation people put me back over to tech support. They are at a loss. Maybe it is a bad hard drive, bad sector, etc. Very frustrating since the computer is brand new.
Tomorrow we are going to work on it online where they can get more information.
If anyone comes us with any ideas, I am open to trying them.
Thanks,
Pam

You could try running a CheckDisk to detect whether you have bad sectors on your hard drive.

Thanks for all of the responses. After several hours on the phone with both adobe and dell, we had to do a complete restart of my computer. It took the computer back to like it was when it came out of the box. I had to reload everything and start over. I thought everything was fine. It was for about a week.
Then it happened again. This time I knew what programs I had added that caused the problem. I am a member of a survey group that monitors your computer useage. I put it on and in a few minutes, the photoshop would not work again. This time I onl had to go back to three days before and refreash the computer to that point. What a pain.
Anyway, I am back on photoshop and will no longer be allowing my computer useage to be monitored.
Thanks again for all the imput.

What a great story. A true mystery novel, shortened to a few replies to a thread.
I just couldn't figure out the villain. I should have, but just couldn't do it.
