I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion on what type of flash(es) I should get for my recently accquired 5D.. I know there are the canon Speedlites which are towards the expensive end of camera mountable flashes, and then on the other end of the spectrum, the Vivitar 285hv which lacks any sort of TTL or iTTL.
What do you think or have in mind?

I like my sigma 500. They go fairly reasonable used and produce enough light for my needs.

I always suggest my friends who are new to DSLR to go with a dedicated flash first, to be able to get the flash shot without fuzz in almost any lighting condition, and to take advantage of newer technologies such as HSS, second curtain sync, FEL, FEC, etc.
430EX is good, but I think the 5D deserves the 580EX :)

Canon 430EX (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/397664-USA/Canon_0298B002_430EX_TTL_Flash.html/BI/2312/KBID/3114) will be idea for a first flash, it has a good auto mode, and you can learn manual flash too.

Im thinking of getting the 5D as well. If I do I will be getting the tiny Canon flash with it. It is tiny and will be used onlu whenI would have needed the pop up flash...as in rarley... but dont need a big flash. Such as fill for snapshots.
