Last night, while editing some recent shots, my wife comes up to me and says "I think you should get that new lens so you can practice with it before my nephew's upcomming wedding. After a little foot dragging and deep thought, I agreed.

You agreed to shoot a relative's wedding? Even for the full range of L, that's an awfully steep price!

Beware a woman bringing gifts (or saying it's alright to spend cash on things she doesn't touch)
My wife bought me a 17-40 L last week, great I thought.
10 minutes later and 30yds down the high street, it cost me a holiday
still, at least this year i'll get to shot in the sun :p

That reminds me of the time my wife suggested I start smoking again to stop gaining wait. She said something like, "Maybe if you had a cigarette instead of snacking, you wouldn't gain so much weight."
I had quit a few years earlier after being a chain smoker, and welcomed any excuse to start again. I began smoking that day, and within a month was back up to 3 packs a day. I didn't lose any weight, either.
I've since quit for good (approx. 25 years now).
Very off-topic, I know, but your story just triggered that memory.

How does that work?
Women have a knack of exploiting men, I was on cloud 9 because my wife had just spend £600gbp on a lens for me. I dropped my guard and got talked in to paying for a holiday which is more than a little more expensive than the lens.
they give an inch and take a mile :D

i envy you,
It took a full years grovelling as well as many extras thrown in just to get my 300D. Gaw'd knows what i shall have to stoop too to get my next lens? i am at present considering underhand methods such as a play on my wife's better nature something strangers seem to do so much better than i. My only hope now is the lottery.

That's a very interesting topic actually, but not for this board. The whole lot of female members will probably be very offended :p:rolleyes:
Let's just say, for the sake of political correctness:
The wife is always right and knows what's best for you.
BTW: Digifailure - unless if was a shotgun wedding you have no right to complain. You subject yourself to it by free will, so enjoy the ride, even if you didn't read the fine print

Doc is right !!
Think of marriage as kinda like dating...except you don't have to get dressed up so often.

Sometimes you guys make me happy not to have a significant other in my life. I only have to convince myself to buy something.
Not that I wouldn't mind a lovely lady in my life mind you. ;)

Okay you guys!!! I am a wife who tried to talk her hubby out of buying me the 20D but couldn't do it. Now I am sooo glad I have a good job because he probably won't be able to stop me from buying all the toys I want...(but just one at a time). If your wives are giving you grief over a camera and lenses, remind her what she could be grieving over instead.
 Maureen...still in her forties with kids grown and no longer financially dependent...YAY!

My partner is very stressed over work just now (she's a teacher with an an inspection on monday) and is having more that a few glasses of wine tonight (to cope you know). :) She has just agreed to my buying the 24-70 L lens...is it fair to exploit this moment of weakness?
Thinks for a moment...too right it is

No. That's horribly unfair. Now if you'd gotten her to agree to the 1Ds Mk II with the 70-200 IS L . . .

don't get me wrong, my partner allows me to indulge my hobbies as well...as long as she shares them...makes the purchasing decisions...uses my wallet...etc
