Little bit of advice required if possible.
I have a lady customer who now lives in NYC and wishes to buy some images from my website to remind her of her days at a UK university. She has no PayPal account and no UK bank account.
What is the best way for her to transfer the money? Transcation value is £31 ($59.00) so I dont want to incur huge bank charges.

Have her send you a U.S. Postal Money Order - The International Version
(I think it is pink in color -not sure though) You should be able to deposit it
without to awful much trouble.
Check with your bank - see how much of a service charge that they will levy
and just add it to the cost.
My .02(US$) .025(CAD$)

Even if she doesn't have a PayPal account, she can use a credit card at the PayPal site to send you money, assuming you have a PayPal account.

A USD cheque you can bank will work, you can bank it into your UK account, but find out what the fees are and add that to her bill, plus currency changing fees.

I don this when I can't meet someone in person. I just get their email and send them a request. They don't have to create an account.

You can cash US cheque, but at least here, fees are so huge, that it's just not worth it for something like $50. My solution is simple bank money transfer. It works everywhere, and even though it's not standard in USA, it still works. Fees are not all that big either, and you have money on your account in 2-3 days.

Lady has placed her order, and the solution is sooooo obvious that I never thought of it - and it hasnt been suggested either.
She got a friend to do it.
