not sure if this is a hoverfly..my Dad always called them Billy Bees, don't know why.

Yep - first one is a hoverfly.
Seem a little noisy these shots. Did you crop them? How far away were you? Get closer :)

i was just gonna say the same thing. keep trying and you get it down fast.

i just check your exif and the first one is set at iso 400 and the second at iso 100. could explain the noise we are seeing on the first one.

Thanks Brian (and everyone else) for the comments. Both are cropped-I was using a tripod with a 100mm I borrowed from work. I'm trying to get more keepers, handheld keeper ratio is very small. This was late evening, using flash w/ small aperture-trying to increase my DOF too much I think?
