This was my first attempt at shooting an aerial event. I was there both Sat. & Sun. and had a great time. I tried to utilize some of the tips that I had read about here, but I would appreciate any advice as I am sure there is much room for improvement. ;)

Nice pictures. Were those taken with the 55-250 or the 100-400?

Good ones! Were those taken with the 55-250 or the 100-400? EXIF says 400mm.

Thanks!

Yes, it was the 100-400. Except for the pit lane walk through, I didn't even take the 55-250 out of my bag.

It was a lot of fun. I even made some attempts at panning, but my rookie hands could not keep up with planes darting around pylons at 200-230mph. I was close on some, but nothing decent to post.

I guess it'd help if i at least checked for EXIF data. Whoops...

Thanks! I can't wait until these guys come back to Detroit. At least I know how to prepare for them now.

+1. They did seem kind of sketchy on if they wanted to keep the Detroit waterfront a permanent location though.

I hope they had a good response from the surveys they issued. Hopefully, it will persuade them to return. If it doesn't, maybe I'll write a letter and see if they'd be interested in coming to Port Huron and run the course at the mouth of the St. Clair river under the Blue Water Bridge! (lol...I know, wishful thinking)

Nice photos, I got to go up to Detroit for the weekend of the air races since our friend had rented out a sponsor tent thing. It was pretty cool! I took a bunch with a 55-200MM from right next to the finish line.

Hopefully they'll come back next year, I'd really like to do that again!
