an ebay auction lists a 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5 "champagne" edition lens for sale. The seller states that this lens has superior optics as compared to the "standard" canon lens of the same specs. Is there such a beast?

Yes, there was and some people claim it had SUPERIOR OPTICS but I have never really seen one in person.... It is an older lens and I belive it is a slow focusing lens though...

It's identical in every way to the black 24-85 aside from one thing - color. If the seller is that prone to lying about what they are selling, or that misinformed, I'd probably avoid them.
The lens was only made that color to match the APS body it was sold as a kit lens with. The 24-85 is actually a pretty good lens so worth a look, just don't believe any crap about 'superior optics' from the champagne version.

I have heard a few people say that it is better then the regular 24-85 but they could be mistaken I guess.
