Just playing around in PS trying to learn how to softened an image..thanks to the help of one of the members here at telling me how it was done.
I had wonder how to get that soft look that I had seen posted.
So now I know haha. gives me something else to play around with.
I really like the look it gives... I might have over did it just a bit but this was my first try at it. Thanks Neil for the help with softening the image.

She's pretty... Only change I'd make is to clone out the braces.

What a knock out, braces or not. There was a post recently that showed how to really soften the look.....let me think, it was like you create a duplicate layer then Gaussian blur it. Then reduce the opacity. It looks like this way make it soft glow instead of just looking like it's out of focus because the background layer is still nice and sharp.

Nice pic, except that I would lessen the softening. You can use an eraser on the gaussian blur layer mask on some of the essentials that are expected to be sharp. This will let the layer beneath, being sharp, show through the softening layer. Those being eyes, teeth, lips, eyebrows and maybe hair. Then pull back slightly on the opacity of the gaussian blur layer. It just needs a little fine tuning.

Is this any better? sorry this was my first try at this and didn't know what I was doing. But thanks for the advice. I think I used the eraser and sharpen up the eyes, mouth, and eyebrows

I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I think she's very beautiful, especially with the braces! Don't clone them out... I've always liked that look for some reason.

Too soft for me also. Doesn't seem to be a need to soften it.

I couldn't agree more. Her braces are part of who she is right now and she is a very, very beautiful young woman. These last three redos look awesome. Good work. You've got a great subject there in your Grand-daughter. You are blessed.

She is gorgeous!! Bring her up to my studio sometime!!
As for the softening, maybe a little less softening and a little less reduction of the softening on eyes and teeth, etc. You don't want people to notice the effect.

Thanks ;-)
Thomas, Charles, Hellashot and Jim I appreciate the comment very much. And I agree with you ha :-) guess I would still say that even though she wasn't my granddaughter she is a very beautiful young lady. And I like the braces I thinks she's cute with them.
She gets them off next month and she is excited about it. I will have to post some of her here when she gets them off. Till then I'll keep her just the way she is..LOL my sweet little baby girl with braces. Thanks again everyone. And I was just playing around with the softening just to see what it looked like had never done it and just thought I would give it a try.
It was fun to experiment with.
And Charles LOL if I'm ever out that way I will be sure to drop by I would love to have you photograph her. I love your work it's awesome your the greatest I've seen.
here's one with and without the braces... that a friend did for me here on the forum I think she did an excellent job cloning the braces out.

Now, now. I shoot youngsters sometimes too. But I require a parent be in the studio and I have very strict rules about what the girls can and cannot do. I think you were joking but you might be surprised how many young girls want to model past their ages. It's amazing. As a father myself, I believe that kids need time to be kids. There's plenty of time for them to be adults later.
