Hi all,
I'm looking at options for portable storage to take along on a trip to USA in August. Since I'm not taking a laptop etc I was hoping for some advice on USB drives of a reasonable capacity (say 20GB) to enable me to download CF card photos using the USB 2.0 of an Internet cafe PC.
Any assistance or advice would be appreciated as this stuff is all new to me.

You might want to consider the hyperdrive devices, hyperdrive.com. They offer several different units with different features. I have several years experience with hyperdrives and have found them to be reliable and convenient to use. Also, they are probably the fastest download unit available and hold a battery charge well. Comparatively, they are well-priced.

I just received my Hyperdrive Colorspace and love it, it is very easy to use and very fast for downloading CF cards. I bought one with the drive in it already but I have a couple of other drives if I am traveling and fill this one up.

I use my Creative Video Zen W which plays video, music and takes a CF card for back up. Very fast transfer and lots of capacity. Only problem is won't view RAW but does view JPG. So you either shoot RAW and small JPG or don't bother viewing and just shoot RAW. No matter to me as I always take a laptop. Good do it all option.

I have the Epson viewer, but they are around $400-$600. You can buy a laptop for that price now. I would definitely consider buying the hyperdrive if you are not using the storage as a viewer. I can't imagine going on a long trip without taking a portable hard drive. Wouldn't that be the easiest way. They have Passports with 320 GB memory for around $120 here. You can definitely copy onto that when you get to a computer.

did i tell you i had the hard drive upgraded in mine? i got the epson for $208 delivered when they were running the double rebates and my buddy installed the hard drive, which cost me $70 and lunch :D.
i also bought and extra battery and a charger and am charging the batteries now for our trip on tuesday :D.
i love the epson p3000. super nice LCD and intuitive controls. great for when you can't or don't want to take a laptop.

Hi all,
Looks like the answer may be to burn a dvd and also to down load to a PSD. I read that there is a possibility of the PSD HDD crashing and that would mean a potential loss of all photos. I think having them burned as a back up may be the way to go. On the PSD side it seems the most used (and popular) unit is the Colourspace 0. Reviews are all good so at this point I am tending in that direction.

I use a Nexto OTG, they are very good, mine hasn't hiccupped in the 2 years I've had it and has great copy speeds. Battery lasts well due to it having a basic LCD screen too. You can get them for about £100, maybe less if you look about.

@ Brutus.
In the past travelled with a pair of Vosonic PSD devices. My wife carried one and I carried the other each with its own battery.
Backed up the days shooting to each (duplicated) before clearing the memory cards.
Did not have any problems.
I would not waste valuable travel time finding internet cfes/phot shops etc to back up the pics to DVDs.
Also if you shoot RAW and are going for more than two weeks or so 20GB may not be enough.
