i love the mug shot..the mouth parts are similar to the katydid, and grasshoppers eh?

theres a mad story to go with this image
Yesterday i went on a bug hunt..found this lovely green saw fly in a bush.i took some plastic cups with me and i collected it in to the tub..i took it home..put some honey on a leaf them put the cup over the leaf, soon as it started to lick the honey i took the cup off and started shooting...after about 5 shots it flew off..i turned to see which way it went and it flew right in to a spiders web..i didnt want the spider to have it..i was shooting it the swine..lol.hes not eating my subject..
So as the spider grabbed the fly i quickly got a brush in my garden i tore the spiders web with it.because i done this the spider dropped the sawfly..but from what i could tell the spider had stabbed him as it was paralysed . perfect for shooting..lol..jk.all tho i did take 1 or 2 shots while it was paralyzed..lol..any way it thought it was done for after brian and my other mate told me it dont really stand a chance when its been bit..so i left him on a leaf in my garden..The next day(today)i go to take some pics of a grasshopper and to my surprise the sawfly is no longer paralyzed..he let me shooting him for about 5 mins then thought " im off" and it flew away in to the sunset..:)
this was one strong fly!! oh and the spider was as big as my hand..must of been a house spider.

interesting story..WOW...what a trooper that fly is.
that spider is huge also (never seen 1 size of my hand...lol - other than tarantula.)
fractalius . . that makes sence...in 3d studio max when using "noise" to make objects seem distorted there is a fractal setting that really makes it look distorted...
cool. i like it a lot.

But still, i dont think we get that size spider here...
i have seen wolfies (no shots though . . no camera, working in the woods... :-( . . . )
that were a couple inches long (1/2 a palm...lol)
i want giant spiders...then i could really get a great mug shot ;)

what is it then..likes like saying a jumping spider isnt a spider..if it isnt a fly why has it got a fly in its name..lol

same reason a Dragonfly has fly in its name - it flies! Flies are Diptera Sawflies are Hymenoptera, same Order as Bees & Wasps.
One true fly that is a pretty green is Meromyza pratorum so look out for that.
