I have the 70-200 f/4.0L and love the lens but need a little more range, will this converter work well and give me good prints. I have never used an extender so have no idea how they work.

I know you loose one F stop but will the 10 and 20 D make the adjustment or will I have to make a manual adjustment.

i have that same lens and i am using the 1.4X teleconverter II.

It definitely brings things in closer view especially if you're using a digital body.

As for loss in sharpness if you stop down to f8-f11 you will have very sharp pics.

I'm happy with my converter

I don't have your specific lens but I do have the 70-200 f/2.8 L IS and the 100-400 L IS. I have used the 1.4TC on both of these lenses and there is very little noticeable loss of quality. You will find that your camera automatically compensates for the loss of 1 stop. If you were in AV mode with the TC attached, it would stop at 5.6

The 1.4X looks great on that lens (and pretty much any other it will work with)
It is a very good investment.

I use the 1.4TC and 70-200 f/4 combo with good success. Im thinking about getting the 100-400IS, and curious what results I can expect adding the 1.4TC to it. Will I loose AF?

Yes, you will lose AF on the 100-400. I've used the 1.4 TC on both of these lenses and it works great. The only drawback is the loss of AF on the 100-400, which you can get around by taping a couple pins, if you're desperate enough.

I have the combo, and I don't hesitate to use it. The image quality is excellent. Only downside is losing one stop, but in daylight it should not be a problem.

Have Fun,

Since the metering of both the 10D and the 20D are TTL, the camera will automatically make the exposure adjustments for you. You won't have to do anything other than what you would do if you weren't using the 1.4x TC.

And as for AF, you will not lose AF with the 1.4x TC, either so focusing can be done automatically as well.

In all honesty,. I believe the original questions were all answered by the 1st two posts combined. SSim's answer seemed to cover the 1 stop loss and the cameras ability to compensate automatically. :)

This is wyy I at least only answered the subjective aspect of the original question.. ie: "will it give good prints?"
