Quatum has finally decided to make an E-TTL adapter for their line of Turbo Flashes. This mean those of us who have a T-2 flash and a D30 camera can finally use the flash in something other than manual or auto modes. The module is due out in November 2002 with no price set. You can check out their website at www.qtm.com

Dear Jdomke,
I would suggest trying one of these flashes at a dealer before buying it. If my hunch is right, the Quantum flash will use the electronic circuitry of the D60 and all you will have is a fancy 550EX that works no better than the Canon flash. I would leave the flash on "auto" and forget the ETTL. Until Canon comes up with a better metering system good candid flash pictures will never happen.

The big benefit of having an adapter made for the D30 is that the flash will be recognized by the camera. Nothing is more irritating than trying to shoot in P mode with a flash when the camera has no idea a flash is attached and ready to fire. Now we can use a mode other than M.

Dear Jdomke1,
It really doesn't matter what make of flash is used with the Canon D60 until Canon decides to replace the method in which the flash determines the correct exposure we will be dissappointed with the results. The Quantum will only give the same results as the 550EX because it will measure the light output the same as the Canon flash. Hopefully there will be a "auto" setting which doesn't rely on the ETTL system designed in the Canon. I know for a fact the Quantum flash works well with the Nikon 3D matrix system and the Hassleblad TTL system. It probably will work with some of the other brands of cameras that don't have the Canon ETTL system. The D1 has many focusing points so the Quantum might work with the D1 also.
