First Attempt at HDR

Hey all, I know this is a bad picture, but was just trying HDR. Can you please give me some C&C on the HDR side of things and let me know how i could improve?
Also how do you make it look like a painting using HDR? or do you use photoshop more for that?

uber halos....
i would honestly say that this image doesn't fit the HDR criteria....something with more color....and a background that isn't so bland....

Google HDR tutorials, they help a lot to get rid of halos and tweak your images. Find a shot with some more tonal range to experiment with foor one. This could probably use some contrast though.
