i've searched everywhere in this forum but there wasnt any thread or reviews about the tamron 70-210 f2.8.. i've read some reviews on photographyreview.com but none was really helpful to me or convincing enough to help me decide this over the canon 70-200mm F4
i figured since the tamron is actually cheaper than the f4, it would be a bargain since its a faster lens but something is suspicious and is holding me back on the purchase

As a general rule of thumb - you get what you pay for.
This old axiom applies to lenses too.
There is no doubt that third party manufacurers can, and do, sometimes provide lenses which are excellent performers (both for their cost and even if they were priced higher in some cases).
I'm sure that Canon would love to sell their 70-200/4L cheaper if they could do so - I'm also sure that they don't price L lenses to make an 'unfair' profit on them - buy the Canon lens, treat it as an investment and be sure it will work on Canon EOS DSLR bodies yet to come.

Over the past 30years of shooting, i've had some great results in using Tamron Lenses, both autofocus and manual. From Macro through Zooms! Yes, I agree the glass isn't Carl Zeiss, however their workhorses. In my early days I couldn't afford the "best" lenses, many of us starving photog's couldn't! So I opted for Tamron. Now, i must admit i don't know much about their "digital" lenses, you'll have to research them yourself? But my opinion is that they've always given me great results! Oh, and by the way, I'm using a SIGMA lense with my Cannon 10d, with also great results!

I could not agree more. I have been using Tamron lenses on both film and digital slrs for at least 15 years and yes they may not be "L" glass but they never let you down.
They are just solid workhorses and I have NEVER had a compatibility problem.
But the choice must still rest with you.

hey i have this lens sitting on my desk next to me right now. its actually a really good lens. i was in a similar situation as to the cost of this lens versus the canon versions.
i went with the tamron and only now that i can afford and justify buying an f2.8 IS would i give this lens up, and only because i need the IS for some of the work i do with weddings and concerts.

Most of the people who say you get what you pay for. Are usually canon Fanboys and think there is no other good lens then a Canon lens.
Sigma/Tamron/Tokina all make GREAT High quality lens when you are talking about certain ones..just like canon. Canon makes some serious lame ducks in lens as well.
