Need a bit of help here, folks. I have two 580s and also an ST-E2 transmitter. I also have a OC-E3 cable that I use on a Stroboframe. The problem I have is looking for a device that will protect the bottom of 580 and provide a place to screw it to a light stand. I have seen something called an Canon Off Camera shoe (OA-2) but I don't see a pic of it anywhere. I see it for $45 on the Canon eStore site but I don't know if that is what I'm looking for. Currently I use the "platform" that came w/the 580 which has a screw adapter but I'd really like something stronger (metal?). Any ideas???

ps - I think what I want is a COLD SHOE but I want it to definitely cover the points/contacts at the base of the 580. It looks like a "specific or special" shoe connection. I've been searching and keep coming up empty.

I use these - http://www.flashzebra.com/brackets/0041.shtml
They allow the attachment and some adjustment.

I like that concept, Dave, thank you. The only trouble is that the cold shoe does not look like it will accommodate the contour of the 580's locking mechanism. That is why I think (emphasis on THINK) I need something from Canon that will engage the 580, lock it tight, and then I can screw it to the top of a stand. I will look into this flashzebra once I find something that can accept that 580 shoe. So thankful you took time to post!

Take our word for it, what Dave linked to is what you want or something similar to it. I have the 580EX and the 580EX II and both will fit in that cold shoe without a problem. That cold shoe comes with a screw on the side so you can either use that to hold the flash in place or remove it and use what's provided with the flash.

If all you want is the cold shoe without the bracket, Stroboframe makes them also and might be more to your liking.

Leo, I'll take your recommendation! I will go to flashzebra and order that cold shoe from B&H. Thank you for that link!!!
