With the flash attached to the camera hotshoe and set to TTL and auto-zoom, what is flash power and the zoom coverage when fired?

(Certainly, using the flash in manual mode and manual zoom would give me full control. But I'd just like to know exactly what my flash does when given this scenario.)

For example, if I were bouncing my flash to a wall behind me, how would it determine how far the wall is from the camera, as it has no sensor to gauge the distance? Is it simply outputting the predetermined power and zoom coverage every time whenever it's set to bounce?

I'm pretty sire it will still fire a pre-flash for exposure and then do the best it can to fulfill the exposure needs. it then becomes a question of if you have enough power to get there and back

I think you're right. The pre-flash fires so fast that I've never noticed it firing. So, I set the rear-curtain flash with a slower shutter speed, and I do see it firing. As for the zoom coverage, the manual says that it'll set to 50mm.

What i normally do is when bouncing I always set the zoom to 24mm for the widest coverage. I wonder it that the correct way

The idea behind bounced flash it to turn a nearby surface into a large apparent light source. How large do you want that light source to be? There is no single right answer.
