Yeah, that is really amazing! Truly blown away at that shot!
On to my saga:
I just got my crap copy back from C.R.I.S. and my shots are fuzzy, fuzzy, fuzzy. I have 4 days to return it to Amazon or waste more time and $$ (It was $40 to mail the lens and body at separate times) and did I say waste more time? Has any had luck with the T1i and this lens? I had much better shots with the Canon 1.4 (and 1.8!).
Trying to figure out if I should keep the Sigma and send it again or return it? I wonder if I could just keep ordering & returning from Amazon or if they'll cancel my account or something if it takes a couple (or few?) times to get a decent copy. I am seriously leaning towards returning it. This is not a good experience with Sigma, especially after sending it in to C.R.I.S., camera out of service for over three weeks, and getting it back and having 98% of my shots turn out crap.

Give beachcamera.com a try. I bought 2 Sigmas from them 30mm and 50mm with no problem. 30mm went to the Xsi and the 50mm with the 5dc. Seems like they don`t restock crappy or bad lenses that was returned.

question to those who have returned for replacement or calibration, do you send it to sigma or return to where you purchased?
After having mine for 1 week I have to use a focus adjustment of -15 but its still not right..

Is it OK to try to be constructively critical in such an über-positive thread? ;)
Nice composition and with all the diagonals pointing to her face, but doesn't quite work for me. I would have preferred if the focus was on her face rather than on the hair, I feel the main story in the picture is the smoke, and possibly with a bit deeper DOF too.

First attempt at a little Movie style type street photography, I know it's not landscape oriented to give that cinamatic feel but my fault for having the camera up the wrong way :)
Funny all the same .) btw this is in Germany :p

Pulled the trigger and ordered one up today. Sold my canon 50mm 1.4 a couple weeks ago and miss it. Since I made the mistake of getting ride of it I thought I'd at least give this lens a try. Hope I didn't make another mistake.... Only time will tell.

Let us know how they compare - I've not tested the canon version but word is the Sigma is much sharper wide open..

I will Martin. Yeah I sold my canon 50 1.4 because I got the 35L and was blown away with the quality. I tended to always reach for the 35L when I used to always reach for my 50.
This is my first Sigma lens purchase.

As one man's opinion, I will TOTALLY agree that the Sigma is sharper wide open. It seems to be sharper over nearly the entire range. The Canon just tends to be a smidge more accurate on it's focus, so its a bit of a give and take. That COULD just be my copies though, so I'm still very interested to hear other's opinions.

Look at the shots I took on the previous page, seems pretty good wide open to me (those shot wide open). Definitely better then the Canon.
But the AF seems to be less accurate with moving subjects I find. I'm pretty sure if you google up reviews they would say the same thing.

I got to use my new Sigmalux quite a bit this weekend. I have noticed that focus is pretty inconsistent. When I am within 10 feet, this lens takes amazing picutres from f/2 up. But further than 10 feet, its a crap shoot. I havent really taken anything wide open that I am happy with. I have tried to MA, but again, its great at one distance, but not the other. I really want this lens- should I try and get another one from B&H, or just send it in for calibration??
About 8 feet away.. F/2.8, 1/125, iso 200 - Bounce flash

No green tint - "Split toning in LR by dropping the yellows in the highlights and blues in the shadows.." it's not an easy process to achive..

I sent my new Sigma 50mm into Sigma almost immediately after I purchased it. Had it back in a week, and the focus is spot on. My only issue with it now is that I'm not sure the focal length is right for me. I'm thinking about selling it, and maybe picking up a new 24-70mm f/2.8. But yeah, once it's properly calibrated, it's a stunning piece of glass.

Checking my wife's eyes after cataract surgery yesterday. A toric lens was implanted and she has 20-20 vision in that eye as of this morning.
The shot is handheld, Canon 5DM2, Sigmalux, program, auto ISO (1000), 1/40s @ f1.4, cropped slightly. The dial is at 100 percent, noise and USM corrected.

And here's a view showing the eye more clearly. I don't think my wife will like these shots. The only difference from the one above is it is at f1.6. I cropped a horizontal to vertical and color corrected for the light and applied noise control and USM.
Not too bad on focus, although it really was difficult for me to see since the lighting was subdued.

It was nice to finally get a chance to use the Sigmalux for something other than test shots, since I got it calibrated at Sigma's N.Y. facility. I got a lot of shots with the Sigmalux from that party that I need to go through, but a preliminary review of them shows that the focus on most of them were spot on. The ones that weren't were user error. ;) Very pleased.
Shot of my wife at our friend's 40th birthday party. Her left eye is perfectly in focus, but her right eye is not - no fault of the lens there... the shot was take at f/2.2, which doesn't give much DOF when shooting up close. EXIF data attached.

I didn't like Biology either- too much memorizing. I hate studying, haha :o
I found the Chemistry and Physics easier in a way because I just had to keep doing questions over and over again to get the concepts instead of having to memorize an endless list of names and body processes
Principles 12.. Probably talking about Principles of Mathematics 12 :p

Normal? No - I dont see this effect at 1.4 - however it could be that your lens is front or back focusing..

certainly you would agree, though, that a lens that does NOT sharpen up when stopped down from max aperture is a rare thing indeed.

No? with nearly every fast prime I've ever shot wide open you can get a little bit of that "glow" The 50L's I used had it the most. My EX50 doesn't have much but it does have it....I know when I sent mine in for calibration it helped a lot.

So basically that's the amount of halation to be expected from this lens wide open? I just want to make sure, since the lens is still under the exchange period.
