it would be very helpful, if posters in this thread indicated at which F stops the photos are made. A lot of us look at the images not only to admire them, but to do a research on a next lens, or to compare lenses. It would benefit quite a bit to know if the lens was shot wide open or stopped down etc.

If you follow the shots to flickr (the one's on which your cursor turns to a hand are particularly easy, just click) you can choose actions --> exif and it will give you all the info :). Enjoy!

Mine isn't new, but I doubt they've been banned here. Thank goodness! I can't imagine they would be dangerous for reasonably careful people, and they save my back like crazy :)

Yep, as sbattey noted, it's been banned since.

It's not a very high occurrence... heck, the reported cases is super low. The only question is whether it's worth taking that risk?

That's for you (and any other parents) to decide.

Lose a finger, or get a limb stuck, or worse yet, get stuck in a position where one suffocates. Some might call it "Darwinian Fitness", mother nature's way of filtering out the weak. But I would hope all parents would agree, why take that risk with the most precious person in one's life?

As for it relating to the pic... I see the release handle on the side, I see a little boy in the crib. Therefore I commented. I have no agenda, just pointing out an observation. Should I not have?

I wouldn't worry about it, I think most of the complaints have been about freak accidents. I lived in a drop side crib as a baby...I think I'm still alive.

Jay - love the thought behind these shots and the use of the structure - take it, its a kids play area? :D

Hope you don't mind me saying, but just think they could do with an exposure boost as their faces are too dark - maybe your exposure was thrown off by the white dress.

Also, the top "hole" is kinda distracting - taking the eye away from the couple. In the first two shots, I would crop it out.

Thanks for the input. Yeah... exposure was tough on these ones... it was one of those situations where you wish you could do multiple exposures and combine later in post, lol.

Ill add some fill light and see if I cant brighten up the faces a bit.

As for the top hole.... you and be both! I thought the same thing but when I did the crops without the hole in the top the shots didnt really look right anymore.... :rolleyes: either way they kinda look a bit off so I decided to leave it in.

As for the area, lol, its actually just this random old half cut up rusted tunnel "thingy" just sitting there downtown Vancouver in a small corner park. It became sort of popular so i think city just left it there.

My bad I wanted to say I tried to micro adjust it +15 and still no luck, but instead of them refunding me they sent me another one. I will give it one more try :D tomorrow its coming in. I just got my 5d mark II back from canon, so i'm ready to shoot :D Been using my 40D for two jobs

im not exactly sure where i was since I'm not from there...

but i was on E. 50th st. i think that rd you see is lake shore dr or something like that. the condo i stayed in was on the 21st floor and all the windows in the house had that view. very nice view

that is crazy! same one for sure?
get a refund, i had good experience with b&h, sent mine back, (ground :( ) then get 2 day return for free. and a brand new one that was spot on.
i know first hand ( a few returns/exchanges) b&h does it right.
i heard from others talk that amazon does good on its exchanges also.
i not to happy with adorama, bought a used Demo model (top of they rankings) lens, and it had dust, and some kind of air bubble defect in the glass. needless to say it went right back, even tho it didnt hurt IQ, but resale on it wouldn't be as good.

It was the same way I packed it the plastic was all wrinkled up. dust on the glass, smeared on the focusing screen of the lens.

Probubly, I dont know what i was thinking when i went with f/5.6 for the Subie shots, 1/1250 or so i think i got for a shutter, so...given the max 1/8000 i think i coulda gone...-think- f/2.8 or so, which might have helped..that background sucked, but i think the light kinda did too giving it that odd color cast i cant seem to edit out

5D Mark II with Canon 24-105mm f4 L lens came today. So. Pumped.

Took some randy shots today with the new camera. Here's one I took with this lens. He was moving quite a bit, so it's not the sharpest image in the world.

These are not cropped and from the Sigma 50mm f/1.4. I was staying at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park when this Doe walked up to me. I thought I was going to get a hoof in the head since her bambi was running around but she stopped right in front of me to eat. The second shot I had to stand back to get her in the frame.

the only time i've ever been that close to a live deer was once when i was squirrel hunting and one walked out onto the path i was on about 10 ft in front of me and stared for a second before squealing at me. it was kind of creepy like it was telling me i was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

i like the first one.

I think I won the Sigma lottery! My copy looks extremely sharp wide open at 1.4 and razor sharp at 2.8! I will post up some sample shots I took inside @ 1600 ISO/no flash when I get home from work! I read some reviews from people that say this lens is really a 45mm lens? Is this true?

I noticed the Sigma is slightly wider than the Canon 50 1.2, 5mm wider sounds about right.

Comparing unprocessed images my Sigma seemed to have a slight orange hue compared to the Canon 1.2

Upgraded my body to a 5DII. Getting massive front focusing now. Should I try to fix this with MA or send it in?

i would MA. i MA'd my sigma 30 and then sent it in while under warranty to make sure it was perfect and they just sent it back saying it was fine and spot on. i didnt tell them i MA'd it so idk if they would have done the same thing or not but i couldnt be happier with my lens now.

i plan to have a sigma 50 in the future which if i have problems i will just MA as well unless its SUPER off then ill just exchange for a different copy. yours doesnt seem to be sooo off that it needs to be mailed in.

I just havnt been able to shoot the last few weeks (I had surgery which is best described as "Shoved a dremel up my nose and remove a bunch of bone and cartiledge" which left my face rather swollen around my right eye and nose, making using my camera very difficult and painful until a day or two ago)

So its sorta my "return" to being able to post some photos, i just also happen to have some i think are particularly nice

Only pretty in pink 2 looks sharp to me, the rest look rather soft, i think its because the petals are out of focus yet they're really the main "attraction" here....

Don't be sorry, that is why I post here, is to get opinions :) I think the the u said was in focus is the same one as the first picture just edited differently. I think I need to be shooting at 1/80 for a shutter speed, instead of the 1/60 that aperture priority chooses due to the 1.6 crop. Is that what you guys do?

Just took some pictures of some co workers and I’m blown away by this lens. The Sigma 85mm I returned must of had some issues because this thing is gold! I don't really understand the whole AF thing between the 5D and 7D either because coming from a 7D I think the 5D II AF is just as quick.

I think it depends on the lens, the 5DII was faster than my 30D but slower than my 7D from the brief time i got to use one...

But the other thing is the fact all 19pts on the 7D are cross type, which means a higher chance you're going to get a lock with the outside points versus the 5DII which only has a cross type in the center

Perhaps, I have used 1/40 and 1/50 on my 7D with this lens with great results, but i am also told i am good at handholding...

The rim of the glass and the edge with the ice cubes is all thats in focus ;) the blur is out of focus, Not because of camera shake

I was quite close to the subject, on an angle at f/2, So the DoF is practically nothing..

It's a Morgan three wheeler, they've been about since 1910 with V-Twin engines. I don't know the exact history on this one and I've misplaced the programme :|

Morgan are now building a new three wheeler which looks pretty interesting.

Thank you, Those were done at f/2.8 BTW, Which is where the Sigmalux goes from "sharp" to "cut yourself" sharp

I love the focusing distance compared to the 85mm I returned! $450 cheaper too! then its bigger brother. I felt the 85 was really soft and not as sharp as this bad boy.

@ 2.8 is def the sweet spot! Portraits at 2.0 and up are awesome and F4.0 is crazy sharp although you start loose some good bokeh...and below that are still usable...I am a happy camper. (:

F4.0 .. center point on DUST writing.

Very nice and sharp pics. When shooting on a 60d with this lens are you guys using a 1/50 focal length or 1/80? I have notice some of my pics coming out soft and was wondering if it is due to camera shake.

You need to use 1/80th I think :)

I can get sharp pics @ 1/30th ..I think I have a steady hand
