Hello. I am new to digital photography, and plan on going full blown digital next month with a 20D Canon. My question is what memory card in a 1GB size do you recommend.

I have been looking at the Sandisk brand of memory, but wondering if I need the Secure Digital type of card. Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

Thanks and have a nice day.

The 20D takes Compact Flash, not Secure Digital. In SanDisk cards, the Ultra II will take advantage of the 20D's fast write speeds.

... SanDisk ... Ultra II ...

Ditto. They are fast and relatively cheap - go get one !

The best performance available at the moment for the 20D is the Sandisk Extreme III. They are slightly higher than the Ultra II. You can get it from B&H in the 1GB size now, other sizes to follow soon.

I thought the 20D could NOT use the increased speed of the Extreme 111! Anybody know for sure?

I just got a Lexar Professional 80x 1GB flash card as a gift, but it doesn't work with my PC (USB1) and is flakey with my Mac (also USB1). I just got word from a Lexar support tech that it is not compatible with USB1, so some of you may find that useful info. The Lexar website also does not list Canon cameras as being able to utilize the 80x speed. Any experts out there that can confirm this?

I have no issues with Lexar cards (2GB 80x)

Any experts out there that can confirm this?Yes - the Write Acceleration technology must be present in the firmware of the camera in order to take advantage of it, and Canon does not support it. The Lexar cards are still mighty fast without it, but you pay extra for the WA technology.
