View Full Version : Most comfortable strap??

I have a Rebel digital XT, and just got a 17-85IS lens for it, and need a comfortable strap.
I had the original Canon strap, and it worked fine with my old 28-80 cheapo lens, but the 17-85 adds alot of weight.
So I'm looking for a decent quality comfortable walk-around strap. I heard that Optech makes some nice one, but just wondering what you guys have found to be the most comfortable with the "least bulk"
Thank you

I tried the Optec's(just like sold here). Comfortable. But, I found them to be bulky. Also, the rubber, while comfortable, made my neck sweat.
I switched to Tamrac n-5059 Leather straps. Not as bulky, just as comfortable, and the leather breathes better than the rubber. I removed the two memory card pouches. I did like the Optec's pro-loop attachment better than the tamrac's (tamracs are more like Canon's).

I like a neoprene strap because the elasticity seems to make the camera/lens easier to carry. It can handle two cameras and lenses. If I carry one camera lens, I just remove the top camera and connecting straps.
However, if you are looking for a great strap for a single camera, I really like the Tamrac Boomerang.
These straps are the best twenty bucks or so you can invest in your camera equipment. Your neck will thank you for the investment.

This strap is very very comfortable. Used it all over Europe.

I am rather fond of the Domke "Gripper" strap; it is very comfortable and the non-slip tracks woven into the strap really do work . I have had the 1" wide version on my Rebel XT for a couple of years and I immediately put the 1.5" version on my new 40D. They come in black and tan. Here's a link to the wide version at Adorama: http://www.adorama.com/DMST1500BK.html

I use (and love) the POTN op-tech strap.

I've travelled the world with them and find them very comfortable:)
Add to that they are only 18.95 and ship super quick, plus it helps support my favorite place on the web:):)

Looks to be a nice strap without a lot of bulk?

I hate to dis the Optec's, because so many like them, and they are sold here. But, the other issue I forgot to mention is length. The Optech isn't very long, and I couldn't get my cameras to hang where I wanted.

while I must agree that the POTN strap is a little short for my likeing it's the only complaint I can find and it is a minor one otherwise it's a great strap and you can tote a heavy combo all day comfortably.

Get the 3/8" web attachments. They even hold the eyepiece cover for your 20,330,40, or 5D.

Up Strap ... much research, hate straps, love the Up Strap. But not cheap! Pretty essential if you have a two body set up as the strap keeps the second body secure on your shoulder. This is not a neck strap though. It is a shoulder strap. The neoprene ones like the Optech end up looking a real mess after a while ... or at least all the ones I have ever seen look scruffy. But if they do the job it doesn't really matter.

Yep, that's what I need, especially with 2 bodies

I don't use a strap very often, but when I do it for all day so I don't use the Canon strap, I got rid of that one in the 1st week of DSLR ownership.
I have an Optech and a Tamrac both with neoprene. The Tamarac as the quick release connections just a few inches from the camera so I can take it off to make juggling 2 bodies easier when switching back and forth.
Also the Tamrac strap is extra stretchy so I use it to carry something heavy like a 300mm f/2.8 to help with the weight.

Another vote for the POTN strap...they can be a little short for taller or bigger around shooters....and a lot short for tall, fat shooters like me...there is a simple and inexpensive solution. I use the POTN strap with these (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/485767-REG/Op_Tech_USA_1301012_System_Connector_Uni_Adapter_L oop.html)...excellent investment....makes a comfy strap even better!

That OPTEC strap I got from POTN did seem a littel uncomfortable in the padding the first two days and then it was great, I'm totally sold.

I take it those are longer than the standard POTN straps?

I think they are too short too. Also I don't trust those small plastic quick release buckles.

That's what I hate about mine. I have a big/short neck, and for me these POTN straps really don't turn me on.

are there any other USER opinions on the straps? I am researching some now since my Canon strap digs into my neck.....I am 5' 7" so the shortness of the strap should not affect me. thanks to the users of straps that posted!

i'm 5'8" and the POTN strap is extremely comfortable. i do have to admit though that it's on the shortish side...
having said that, it's heaps better than the canon strap which really digs into my shoulder...

I have to agree. Wilt mentioned this before....I tried it....and switched from the Pro Loop (POTN) strap. It is just as comfortable as the Pro Loop, but fits in bag much better.

Another solution for those who need longer starps and/or do not like the quick release snaps....

Op/Tech Pro Loop Strap on the 1D2N, Classic on the 300L. :D
I love that I can disconnect the shoulder strap to keep it out of the way (how I shoot most of the time) and toss it in the bag for when I need it. It's extremely comfortable; so much so that I never really notice it.

Then how about a POTN Super Classic alternative, for those of us who aren't carrying huge 1D bodies (or 5D with battery grip) and 300 to 600mm telephotos or 'the brick' (24-70) and don't want the bulk?

I'm with you Wilt....
I used the Pro strap (POTN-type) for years. Recently switched to the Super Classic. I find that with the 5D and 70-200 2.8 or 100-400, the Super Classic is just as comfortable as the Pro strap.
As you know....with the 300 to 600mm Super Teles, you should have a 2nd strap on those....they have the lugs.
