Hello. I just purchased my first camera, an A95, and a Lexar 1gb 4x memory card. I see alot of members here have 12-80x speed cards. Is a 4x good enough for a beginner taking snapshots? I hate to buy another card so soon, but will if needed. Also any web links for a newb to learn basics is much appreciated.
Thanks

As your a beginner you dont really have to worry about the speed of the memory card.

I don't *think* that the speed matters in the A series.

I don't *think* that the speed matters in the A series.
There is a little debate of how much it matters.
I know of my two 128mb cards the sandisck card clears the buffer much faster, and lets me take one extra shot in highspeed than my transend card.
Its newer, cost more, and is clearly faster.
However its also pretty clear that the A series isn't able to write as fast to the CF card as say a 20D DSLR, and so won't benifit as much from a super fast card.
That said I believe you will notice a slight differnce useing a 40X card compared to a 4X card.
But you will only notice it when useing highspeed and its not enough of a differnce to get excited about.

I've been using ordinary slow speed Sandisk cards for my Canon A70 and S1 IS for over 8000 photos and so far it has not been an issue for me. I did find however that using continuous shooting with my S1 IS at maximum size and resolution that it paused after taking 10 pictures in rapid succession. I seldom if ever have a need for that. If you don't need that feature I don't see any problem with the card you have. The cameras have buffers built in for that anyway, I believe, and until that is full, you shouldn't have a problem.
