I had turned up on the night to meet some members and get a feel for the club. As it happened the club was judging an open competition that included a section of colour prints, Black and whites as well as slides. I must say that the work in all the catogories was quiet exceptional especially the black and white entries. The judge whom was from outside the club and a proffesional photographer had great difficulty narrowing the black and white entries down to six photos. All of which to my mind could have claimed first prise. What was most impressive and valuable to me was that the judge talked through each entry explaining what he would have liked to have seen in each photo he talked in depth about how cropping can enhance a photo and explained each and every positive. Basically my head hurt when i left. I must say that if you are new to photography as i am then you could do a lot worse than just too attend one of these events . Further the club made me welcome a was paired off with an owner of a Canon 10D whom had plnety of time for my silly questions.
