My flash doesn't seem to work very well with the rechargeable batteries that I bought.

I'm using Pearstone rechargeable batteries that I purchased from B&H. They are AA 2900mAh 1.2v NiMH batteries. They are brand new and are fully charged (according to the charger). The flash doesn't really work (basically won't fire) with these batteries, but works very well with "regular" batteries.

The batteries came in a pack of 8 with an 8 bay Pearstone charger that has a "discharge" button. Each time that I've charged these batteries, I discharged them first, assuming that was the best thing to do.

Any Ideas?

Sanyo make good rechargeables. I have noticed the shutter button on my 40D is stiffer when I use flash.

Shouldn't be necessary to discharge these batteries before charging- Any chance of trying a different charger ? Think most people here are using NiMh batteries with their flashes with no problems- I certainly use them with my 430Exs.

I only have the one charger, but I suppose I can get another at walmart cheap enough.

I've actually only tried to discharge these batteries twice, once when I bought them, and after they wouldn't work on the first use I tried discharging again. I haven't had any success with these batteries, so they are still unused after the second charging.
