...Was feeling very groggy here at work.. seemed to happen after being ExPOSED to this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=52846) ;)

When i woke up from a deep unconcienceness,.. I found a few sheets of paper in my Laserjet,...

They seem to be an Invoice of some sort.. and a mail in rebate form???

Fortunately,.. despite my dilerium,. i was lucid enough to realise that to take full advantage of the rebate,. I must purchase three lenses in total....

Ho.. boy ...

Cool! Does that mean you may have some for sale that I may be interested in? Something Big and cheap, maybe? ;)

By "big and cheap" you probably mean "big, cheap and white", don't you ?

Is "big, cheap, and white" even possible in the context of this forum?

Olegis

It depends on how you define "cheap" ...

Yeah, we pay for shipping, thats it.

Are you going to be selling lenses?

CyberDyneSystems
6th of January 2005 (Thu), 08:21
Er... no I seem to be more of a "buyer" than a seller...

What I got were ALL lenses on my "maybe some day soon" list.. none of which replace anything I have..

I have to say.. Cann's rebate did exactly what they wanted it to do. It provided incentive. the lenses listed all would some day be mine,. on way or another.. but it woild have taken another year to amass all three if it weren't for this damn rebate!

I don't have a Macro lens,. so;
EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM

As I say,. the Macro replaces nothing.. and the 135 and 85mm are in place of using the 70-200mm 2.8 zoom.

I doubt I will sell the zoom.. but time will tell I guess. I may find the primes to good to bother with the 70-200mm again?

I doubt it though.

I currently use a 70-200mm f/2.8 for indoor work mostly but want primes,.. faster ones,. thus;

EF 85mm f/1.8 USM

And the lens that has been at the top of my list for about a year now;

EF 135mm f/2L

Y'all don't know how hard it was to resist the TWO 200 mm f/1.8 lenses that showed up last night on FM's buy and sell forum. TWO of them!!!!

Fortunately, I resisted, but it wasn't easy. The only thing that kept me going was the hope that Canon might produce and sell a similar lens in the future (and for less than collector's item prices).

OviV

So how much did you get in rebates by buying 3 lens?

CyberDyneSystems
6th of January 2005 (Thu), 08:27
Oh? I'll have to go over to FM and see what they sold for.. the prices keep going up

When I first strted looking, Cham Camera in Korea never sold one as high as $3K... now they all sell for over that it seems...

CyberDyneSystems

So how much did you get in rebates by buying 3 lens?

It's really almost insidious.. as by gettting a second lens.. the rebate on EACH lens gets higher.. then the third lens raises it even more.. so you feel like if you DON'T get the other two lenses that you are throwing away free money ??? Does that make sense.

Let me do the math,..

Each lens with individual rebate and triple rebate

85 mm ...... $15.00 -triple = $45.00
100mm ..... $20.00 -triple = $60.00
135mm ..... $35.00 -triple = $105.00

So total rebate is $210.00

And when you consider that $105.00 off of the 135mm essentially equals a lower price than I have EVER seen a used one sell for? How can I pass it up :)

I think this bug is more widespread than first feared.

I also have a digital rebel in there which I would turn around and sell. Waiting on wife approval. If I do it. I will be selling the Digital Rebel, my 170-500, and maybe my 70-200 2.8.

OviV
6th of January 2005 (Thu), 09:47
O.k. I did it. I will be listing the DRebel on the Market section at $650. Less then the rebate and you don't have to wait for it.

Good thing I don't live in the US - it's easier to resist the temptation when you see the S&H prices (and calculate the customs fees) ...

Glad to see some are taking advantage of Canon rebates. I on the other hand after many e-mails and calls to Canon have yet to receive my rebates from May 2004. Even though they were accepted and I was told the checks were sent I've yet to receive anything. So far Canon is the only company I've dealt with that has not honored their rebates.

:( That's a little nervy...

So.. less than 24 hours later.. the "package" has arrived ...

I did not expect it so fast ... so I don't even have camera to put one of these pupies on till I get hime from work.

Still... I guess I need to open the box and take a look see....

Oh man! What have I started? LOL. I didn't know about the rebates for the lenses, but I did take advantage of the $100 visa card rebate that Canon is offering. Planning to use the card to purchase a macro lens in the future. BTW...the 20D is perfect!

CDS,

Great choices. I have the 85 and plan on adding the 100 and 135 soon. :)

Don't worry CDS. You should get your rebate. From my many talks with Canon the last few weeks they switched rebate fullfillment companies. I just got off the phone with Canon and they said they are still looking into my case. They will get back to me as soon as they find out something.

Had a look at the 135mmL.. I forgot how lightweight it seems compared to most of the lenses I use regularly.. very nice little package! It's going to be great for in the theatre.

Well.. it's dismal rain and sluch and snow out.. but I played with them a bit indoors.. I was amazed.. the little 85MM really is just as fast to focus as the 135mm L

Funny.. two of them ar ethe first "non-L" lenses I;ve purchased since I first got the 50mm 1.8 way back when. I was completely surpised to end up with lenses that don't ship with hoods ...

There goes my rebate ...

My new lenses have been delivered and waiting in the mail room to be delivered to my desk. Brought my 20D with me and I'll be chasing ducks at a nearby lake at lunch time. ;)

I guess I am one of the masses who "forget" to go after the rebates! " They" depend on a cetain high percentage that do not comply with the redundant "proof of purchase" requirements. Anyway, the folder with the rebate forms, upc codes, box parts etc. is still sitting on my desk. Probably outdated by now.

I had one of these "blanking out" spells just before Christmas. Came home with a 1D MkII, 17 - 40 F4 L, 70 - 200 F2.8 L IS, 100 - 400 L IS, 80 F1.8, 580EX flash and a host of filters, tripods and other misc. Just checked Canon's site and my rebate check for $440 is approved and waiting for mailing. Wife was just about ready to drop the axe on me, but I told her she could have the rebate check if she didn't do it.
