hi all
ive just got a new 300d and it seems that i cannot set the output to be in raw format or have the function to do a sensor clean.
the firmware is 1.1.1, is this common or do i need to activate some other menu system?
thanks

You need to be in something other than the "Basic" modes (Green blob or the pictures), like Tv, Av, P or M to get those functions.

The 300D doesn't have a function to do a sensor clean, you need to do it manually, and carefully, with the correct equipment.

Tim, if your comments were correct, then you ought to notify Canon that the information is wrong on page 34 of the manual.

I just read/interpreted the question incorrectly. Some cameras have a function that actually cleans the sensor - the 300D doesn't. What it does have is a function to lock the mirror up so you can clean it yourself, if you have the right equipment.
Do you keep a manual with you at all times or something? You seem to point people at it rather than answer the question - which isn't unreasonable.

Some of us have downloaded manuals for cameras we've considered, not just the ones we actually have. Shove it on a USB flash drive and you're never without it. I'm actually planning to put a bunch of the manuals, drivers, and utilities I use a lot onto a mini-CD-R that I can leave in my camera bag(s).
Makes it easy to check on things like that. I'm just (eagerly) waiting for someone to post a PDF for the Speedlite 580EX now I have that. It hasn't showed up on the Canon Germany site yet that I can see.

Tim, your question seems aimed at me, although that is not clear.
I don't even own a 300D, much less have the printed manual for one. There are a few things about these Canon cameras that are known facts, and then there is misinformation as well. It is highly reasonable for me to point out the true fact rather than trying to reproduce all of the steps out of the manual. Besides, once beginners see the steps in the manual, they will likely remember where that is for future reference. If I simply throw out a procedure here in this forum, it will be read for a couple of days and then forgotten. Then we'll see the same question from the same person a month or two later. That is not productive.

Bob - I was agreeing it was a reasonable thing to do earlier ;)
