Nice action... You can sense the heat from the colors too... Were you real close to the stage?

To be honest I don't know what value you would get from a UV filter in those conditions.

Hopefully the comments below will help you improve your technique in the future.
I thought the first photo was soft and blown out (over exposed) - lots of the detail was gone from his face and hand.

#2 is either very soft or out of focus and suffers from a bad case of microphone up the snozz.

If you weren't you might have been better to shoot in RAW and use M settings as often stage lighting can fool in camera metering if you are shooting one one of the auto modes - P, Av, Tv.

Good luck with your shooting in the future.

PS - I like his shirt! (I bought one very similar the other day).

Thanks for the input--I wish I could shoot raw--I have an S3-I agree --the first one is blown out and I thought I had adjusted the contrast in pp--maybe I didn't save it correctly. I can tell you this though...the first one was taken without the UV --it was so humid and hazy--the light was foggy and created a glow around everything and if I stopped it down then there was serious blur( and not the good kind either )--so the filter did help some--particularly when the lights were really blaring.
