Today my son and I went downtown to try to nab some shots. I haven't been downtown in a while now except for some festivals and whatnot and was surprised by how busy it is during the day!

I walked away with a few keepers of some street performers and the like that I figured I would share. We always see so many incredible shots from cities around the U.S. but none from Denver really...

Hopefully here's the beginning of a change to that, I'll get some more up soon as I plan to get down there either later this week or next to get some more.

Enjoy!

Nice shots.

What PP did you do to those?

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

For these they were all processed in Camera Raw and mostly just bumping the contrast, lowering the saturation, and messing around here and there with the other tabs, then adding the vignette...

I really like these shots. I thought at first that some HDR enhancements were used.

I really like HDR and how it can be used but I still have no idea how to use it well... I'd like to figure it out using just one raw file though, maybe time to experiment tomorrow.

Small world!

16th is great but I found myself wanting to grab some shots from other streets as well. I had my son in his stroller though so figured I'd just cruise the mall and leave those alley shots and whatnot for later...

Denver is by far not the biggest city around but still plenty of photo opportunities.

Thanks to both of you for your comments!

Wow, I love the techniques you used on these! I also would have thought you processed them using HDR. I live an hour or two outside of Chicago, and don't make the trip in very often, but seeing these has gives me the urge to spend a day there!

You mentioned you added the "vignetting"...I'm not familiar with what that is or how to do it??

vignetting is just adding some sort shaded border around the edge to draw you eye inwards...

Google helps here for some tutorials.

And thanks for the comment! I'll be in Chicago in a few months for a wedding and can't wait to see what I come back with... Good luck!

Hard to believe that you got the effects you did with only adjustments to the contrast, etc. I honestly thought it was HDR, as they have that "surreal" look to them. I'll look for those tutorials regarding the vignetting too.

You should get some awesome shots in Chicago! I'm a country person, and try to avoid the city whenever possible, but seeing all the incredible HDR shots of architecture and buildings has me dying to get some shots of some of the buildings in Chicago. After seeing your photo's, I'll be looking for "people" shots too :) Have fun in Chicago!

I tried and tried to get the same effect as Dave Hill and then a couple months ago it clicked that I should be taking everything I'm learning and apply it to my own style. Too much goes into copying someone else's work and not enough into making something unique sometimes.

Good luck with your PP. Read and follow through with as many tutorials as possible. Even if they don't do something you're directly interested in try it out to learn something new. Actions are a waste of time because you don't learn anything. Trial and error is key though.

BottomBracket,

Thank you very much for your comment. Your work is a huge inspiration to me. I hate calling people out sometimes but frankly I am taken back by each and every one of your posts. It was actually your crosswalk shot that got me out and shooting in Denver...

Thanks again!

I was torn between that one and the one of the people walking...

The jazz player made it to my desktop wallpaper though. :)

Aww shucks man, I'm just some dude here. Thanks for the compliment, it makes me want to go out and shoot some more. I am glad that you are searching your own style. In a couple of years, it would be interesting to look back on your work and see the various stages you have gone through. Keep on shooting!
