I will be traveling to SF for 4th of July. Does anyone know a good vantage point to shoot fireworks over the bay?

Thanks! Hope it's not going to be too crowded.

Treasure Island is another good vantage point.
However, that will be crowded as well. :(

We are staying at Fairmont--I wonder if we could see fireworks from there.

Certainly. If your room is high enough and facing the bay. If it's not, and it's facing towards the city, then I doubt it.

Is there any common area at the hotel you could view fireworks from--rooftop, restaurant, etc?

If you were staying at The Mark Hopkins Hotel, I would say yes. The Top of The Mark is a resaurant at () the top of the Mark Hopkins.

I just looked at a map. Chances are, your hotel is going to be blocked in by most of the other buildings in the city, and you will probably be looking at, another building.

According to a website I just checked, the fireworks are going to be off of Pier 39 (please don't blame me, if that web site (http://cbs5.com/fireworks/4th.of.july.2.456942.html#section1) is wrong)
Grab a cable car down the Fishermans Wharf, and check out the fireworks from there.
You might even be able to see them if you get a window seat at Bubba Gumps. :p

Well, I drove out to Treasure Island yesterday evening to check out the fireworks, and it was a true San Francisco evening. The fog had rolled in.
So as not to take pictures of pretty colored fog banks, I left.

I'm curious if anyone else saw anything different in SF than I was looking at?

Looked the same from the east bay.
