hehe, I own an 11-year old Lancer wagon written off with hail damage and also $2k damage to one side - some dickhead still broke into it :p

Hrm. Folding the rears down and hiding the tripod under that may be a workable idea.. it'd take more time to rummage around in there than simply opening the boot, too.

Mine was broken into when parked in the Sydney Entertainment Centre carpark. They ignored the glovebox with about $300 worth of CDs in it and instead stole my wife's work bag which only had paperwork in it ??? Oh, they also took a container full of lollies too

Much as I hate to say it, Photoshop would have seen the end of the spotty cloud.
I feel dirty now.

I must say, the thought did cross my mind.

Man, I think this is the greatest number of photos I've seen in one night on a POTNAC thread.. ever!

Indeed - compared with the usual pages of inane banter, this is a veritable treasure trove of decent photography ;-)

Ahh, what happened to the good old days when people used to flash their high beams at you to warn you when the police were out and about.

Thank goodness they advertise their fixed speed cameras well in advance so you can slow down to 5km under till you've passed by.

I had a look at urban dictionary...

FTW "For The Win."

An enthusiastic emphasis to the end of a comment, message, or post. Sometimes genuine, but often sarcastic.

Originated from the game show Hollywood Squares where the result of the player's response is expected to win the game.

Bob: Your 1up t-shirt rocks
Sally: 1up t-shirts ftw.

It's used a lot in online chatter... espsh in gaming, irc etc...

context is more like...

ftw For The Win

Commonly used among geeks to express their enthusiasm for something, especially in IRC.

a) Cola is best
b) nope, Pepsi is way better
a) Cola FTW!

hope that helps ;)

Feng, how is the LR 2 stuff going?

I was going to wait for the distributor to get back to me before ordering regarding mac/pc versions, but if they don't before tonight, I'll order them tonight. If there's no mac version included in the retail box (although I suspect there will be), I'll take the fall for it, and pay for you to ship it back... no problemo there.

Sorry for the lack of updates on that :)

Sounds like typical Aus Post behaviour though, or Couriers Please...

I had Aus Post throw a box with 2 EP's in at my front door because they were too lazy to walk all the way to the door and knock on it

Damn lazy postmen - we regularly get left a card for stuff that a) would have fit in the letterbox or b) that we were home at the time and had he driven up the driveway we'd have taken delivery of.

BTW, the "available after Xpm" time is usually fiction. If you head down there in the arvo before they shut, chances are it'll be there.

Too right!

I actually went to the post office and asked the friendly guy there why it was marked 5pm and why they hadn't knocked.

From the look on his face I think it must have been like the 20th time he'd had the same complaint today. I might buy him a cattle prod for Christmas so he can keep his delivery guy in check.

I find they usually have it there earlier than what's on the card but they don't even bother trying to deliver it normally.

The guy in the shop reckoned the delivery guy would be back at 4:30pm because he wasn't going to wait around for him to show up before locking up his shop!

I'll just pick it up tomorrow. I can't even remember what it was... something insignificant from memory.

Thanks for the messages re the speed cam

It was late and dark - no other vehicle for miles - and I was going under the limit - so we will see what comes of it.

OK - next message from 'the management'

We (the mods) are requested to start reminding people to use language they would normally use on an open forum.

As you know - we have a profanity filter - and many of us (including me a couple of times or 3... :o ) have come up with a number of ways to circumvent the filter.

Well - we are now asking that you extend your vocabularies and find words that aren't on the banned list.

(That means I have to behave, too).

So... if you are creatively thinking of a way to spell a particular word - please don't - I will moderate your post - and I hate having to do that.

The other side of it is, even if you can see the words in daily print (which is probably an indictment on what you read) we don't want to see it here. Pekka has made the rule - I am just following the direction - and, as I said to the Kiwis (only I said NZ there) - in here we are the public face of Australia - our threads get visited by people from all over - and they walk away with an impression of what we are like.

The recent pictorial gallery was fantastic - and showcased us extremely well - congrats to all involved.

Thanks for your thoughtful cooperation on this - I appreciate it.

p.s. - if it all too hard - I will accept entries like f#*&!^%$!. People can make up their own mind as to what you were meaning - the base word hasn't been spelled out. (It was flipping, wasn't it?)

No - what it means it that it is laying a pattern of data on the card that will ensure that nothing can be recovered from it. After that finishes, you format it. Then it looks close to new.

Ooh... what did you buy?

Sorry - didn't mean to look like I had ignored you

it's the el-cheapo 135 f/2.8 soft focus lens - it means I can get shots of the Aussie women who have been out in the sun too long without having to try and PP the leather out of their skin.

There are some great examples of it in use over in the lens forum.

I bought it from DD Angus (cos I just know you are going to ask) and they had one in stock. When I inquired last January, they said there was a 5 day lead time. I got home tonight and rang them - sent the money at 4:38 to their account and emailed them the bank receipt - by 5:06 they emailed me to give the TNT tracking number and suggested it would be here tomorrow...

so I am considering taking a day off work to be here when the courier arrives...

Pretty quick service - I am pleasantly surprised.

OR
2) Sell my 40D on ebay, buy a MkII for $1600 then sell my BGE2N when it comes back from Canon.
