Who is going to tell the gear pigs that they have wasted all their money! Tell you what, seeing as I am such a nice guy I will give you $20 for all your L lenses and $10 for all your 5D's and all versions of the ID's, because now you will have to throw them out.

I suspect the reason we can't find anything online is because there isn't anything. I doubt he has a website, portfolio, or for that matter, that he even works as a pro.
I'm surprised he's not selling 'how to get rich in your own business by selling how-to-become-a-wedding-photographer booklets' booklets. :)

Q: This is a joke, right? 02-Sep-08
A: Why??? One of these point and shoot cameras has a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens - you can't get better than that. The others have lenese made by the manufacturer - Canon, Yashica etc, etc. Same glass and manufacturing as their more expensive big brothers. So, why can't you take wedding shots with these cameras??? Could it be that you own a $3000 Nikon with all the extras on it? And can't bear to think you paid too much?? I have 45 years experience of all types of professional photography behind me and if I can't take good quality pictures with a point and shoot camera, then there is something wrong with me not the camera. I have often been asked, "if I buy a Nikon or Canon would I be able to take photos as good as you?" I always answer, "if you were to buy the same paint brushes as Leonardo de Vinci used, would you be as good a painter as he was?" Its not the gun that kills people, its people who kill people. Likewise its not the camera that takes good photos, its people who take good photos. Moralising is not what I do normally, but your stupid question warranted this outburst. Next time, try first, speak later. Good shooting.
That is gold, Yet in his description he has written the following:
About the technical side of working with this camera - there aren’t any. As long as you are able to pick up the camera that came in this kit, put in the film provided, point it at a subject and press the shoot button! That’s all there is to taking a photograph. There is no need to worry about the light or the shutter or the focus? Just point and shoot and run all the way to the bank.
What a peanut

Actually, if you look at the "book" it's clearly a half arsed effort in Photoshop,. Glad he still works with film in a P&S cos his editing skills are WWWAAAAYYYYYY to advanced for us to appreciate!
Oh and I'm sorry, if a "Professional Photographer" showed up to my wedding with a little old film P&S I think I would just shoot them. no questions.

G'day all.
Just introducing myself and have a quick question for ya.
I posted this in lighting but think I may get a better answer over here.
Has anyone ordered the cybersyncs from Australia. They say email them to get instructions on how to do it but no one is replying to my emails and they are 15 hours behind so I dont know when I would be able to call them.
Thanks

Check with your carrier about calling the US - if you dial 0018 + 1 instead of 0011 + 1 sometimes it's even cheaper! I was talking for over an hour and paying virtually nothing at one stage ;) Maybe Handy Hint of the Day

I don't work for the telephone companies so I'm not sure exactly but in a nutshell I think it's simply another international access code (you have to do the 0011 to almost every country, not just the US and then the +1 is the country code (Australia's is +61 & the UK is +44, for instance)) - and it must be coded at a lower rate than the 0011 offering.
Or it was - I haven't checked in a while and now I just dial 0018 all the time. Probably should check again...
Boucher

::John::
3rd of September 2008 (Wed), 04:03
What does doing that actually do?
There used to be 2 different price breaks for international calls - 0011 and 0018
they still work. It pays to try and check them - one will be cheaper than the other, for example, to call NZ but not the US.
It is a silly international code, though. In other countries it would be as simple as dialling:
00 - for the international gateway
1 - for the US
xxx - for the area code
yyy yyyy for the number
0011 (or 0018) just adds 2 extra digits.

Yeah I have one. (and a Nikon SB-600 and a Nikon SB-26).
The Vivitar is no way near as versatile as the Nikons, in that it's power output settings are a bit limited (need to use distance or ND filters sometimes). The SB-600 isn't anywhere near as useful as the SB-26 though.
Other good strobist flashes are the SB-28, SB-80dx and the much more expensive SB-800, SB-900 and Canon 580exII.
Apparently Sunpack 383s are also good, but I've not dealt with them.

The hard cases are pretty decent - keep all the batteries together and it's easy enough to separate the charged and flat batteries this way. Easier than fishing through a handful in your bag :p
I've decided I'm going to order two more pairs for myself, haha. The Wii remote (Wiimote) goes thru alkalines quite quickly, it seems... and charging non-rechargeable alkalines (as my dad wants to try to do - it's the Asian in him haha) is like squeezing blood out of a rock.

The Foreshore is somewhat popular at night, however the last time I was down there we nearly got mugged and I've been chased along there numerous times for my camera gear. Depends on the night you go! I'm down there quite frequently and only a handful of times have I ever had trouble with yobs but I've taken to hiding all my gear in a big backpack whenever I'm around so it's less obvious :p
There's lots of pretty lights along there and some nice harbour views.
Otherwise... tomorrow night... there's a good gig on at the Ent Cent if you have any media links... Newcastle/Merewether Baths are popular and are lit up at night...

I used the Vivitar for a while, ended up selling it for $90 or so locally as I have enough 580s to cover my off-camera lighting needs... especially now that all three are off-camera. The Vivitar is not that variable with regard to power as has already been pointed out but there's hacks or workaround there (again, as has been mentioned, distance, modifiers). It's plenty powerful for most of what you'll need to do, likely.

ill get another 26 or 28 to go with the 580 and then get some cybersincs
vivitars just seem like something i'd use for a few months and then find limiting because of the non zooming flash heads and other bits and pieces,

Thanks for the tips. If i have energy i may go exploring:)

too late lol
just brought a sb-26 off angus lol..
ill get another 26 or 28 to go with the 580 and then get some cybersincs
vivitars just seem like something i'd use for a few months and then find limiting because of the non zooming flash heads and other bits and pieces,
probably better to spend the extra 30-40$ a flash and get the nikons
The flash head zooms ;)
Thanks for the tips. If i have energy i may go exploring:)
Text me if you're about - I'm likely getting myself kicked out of the venue tomorrow night after 3 songs due to some highly strict promoters so I may have free time to buggerise around in the evening :p

I found this in an auction on ebay and I had to laugh...
"I got this Canon 300D Digital Rebel in a liquidation sale. Cosmetically it is in excellent condition, the LCD is perfect with no scratches, the body only shows very faint signs of wear.
I put in a battery and lens to try it out and it powers up and takes pictures. However, the flash does not pop up, when in the AV setting the aperture can be adjusted but shutting speed remains constant or when in the TV setting the shutter speed can be changed but the aperture remains constant.
Therefore I'm selling the camera AS-IS for parts or repair.
This is only for the camera body as pictured and nothing else."
Me thinks someone needs to read a manual

So - in the spirit of the "first dibs" trend we're following, due to the purchase of the 70-200 f/2.8 IS last weekend, I now have my 70-200 f/2.8 (non-IS) available for grabs.
Anyone keen before it becomes available for sale publicly?
It was purchased less than a year ago - around November 07, picked up from Chen at URGalaxy when we were in Melbourne. Nice, sharp copy; great condition; couple of minor marks around the lens hood. One careful male owner, only used on weekends and occasional weekday shoots.

The IQ is decent but I don't think it quite rates against the 17-40. I think the main qualifiers are... it's an L, it has constant f/2.8, it's cheaper than a 16-35L.

Damn you guys. Just happens that 17-35 (or 16-35) and 70-200/2.8 are *both* on my wish-list, but the bank balance says no.
I'm lucky, I have a partner that actively encourages me to buy toys. Unfortunately I also have a bank account that actively discourages me.
A nice used 17-35 would fit the bill too, as a new 16-35 is stupidly high-priced (more than double the new price of a 17-40 - that's a lot of money for 1 stop of light!)

Meh, one stop is recoverable in PP. As long as you use RAW, it won't make a lick. If however you are trying to stretch an exposure by 3 stops and you need just that extra stop to get a decent capture, you kick yourself for not buying a 2.8 lens.

Well, you're both right of course. Yes, you can underexpose and push it later. And yes, sometimes having that extra stop does make a difference. Having the extra stop and correctly exposing it is always the preferred option, of course. Spare a thought for those of us still using the 18-55/8 kit lens...
Not long back I was trying to shoot a soccer night game - wide open at F/4, ISO1600 and underexposed by 2 stops. Still wasn't really enough, and the photos looked like a red snowstorm. :)

Yes, correct exposure is always advisable. Fast lenses just give you more breathing space in dodgy conditions.
When you use such high ISOs you really do need to either expose perfectly or overexpose, as I rediscovered recently.
