I made this yesterday - very rich, nearly flourless chocolate mud cake. It's quite delicious if I do say so myself :)

Recipe here (http://degroot.id.au/recipes/2008/10/01/rich-chocolate-mud-cake/) if you're handy in the kitchen.

I am not too sure which is the yummiest...Dave's cake or Michael's new family car??

Spent over an hour trying to photograph these cheeky Antechinus's running around my fence line this arvo. They dart, hop and rarely stay still. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dusky_Antechinus

That's cute :). LOL, I think the car is pretty yummy, but I'll still have to try the cake... Value for money wise, I think the car wins... A steal at $17000. :p

No pop up comes up at all.

When I tried to get it to connect, the only one that was shown on the main list - not the manage list - was my home one, not the one I added.

It should have shown two options ... one for our shop's and one for the hotel next door. That's what comes up on my friend's laptop and he just chooses. I didn't even get them as options.

does this help?

Obviously the solution is to eat the cake in Michael's family's new car ;-)

Awww, very cute. I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to shoot our resident Northern Brown Bandicoot - almost got him the other night, but had forgot to change iso and aperture and subsequently was over 4 stops underexposed - grrr.

Thanks, Feng ... it probably would help except I don't get a "default" option.

I get wlan-ap only. None of the ones I added are in this screen, but they are in the Network and Sharing Centre -> Manage wireless networks screen.

'tis very easy, but quite rich too - of course it could be made richer by changing the castor sugar : brown sugar ratio and using dark chocolate instead of milk.

Thanks, Guys! Yes, a big family shoot. I've just come back from scouting the location again and I have big problems. I'm going to have to try to figure out alternatives coz the lovely areas we had planned on aren't so lovely anymore...one of the trees has totally lost all of its leaves and the other area is just f-ugly thanks to a little foliage problem, too. I'm really in a bit of a state over this one now...

Hmmm, that's no good. How's the rain been over that side of the continent ? Everything's fairly green over here at the moment so finding a decent spot isn't too hard.

What's the difference between cake flour and normal flour?

No, that'd be the difference between Self Raising flour and Plain flour. In Australia at least, we tend not to have too many variants of flour. There's baker's flour which is plain but with some added vitamin B and something else (I use this for everything) - it's known as Strong flour in the US; Plain flour (same as baker's flour without the additives) and Self Raising flour is plain flour with bicarb (or other raising agent) added in the correct quantity.
That's pretty much it really, there are some speciality flours made from other grains, but in general they're not for normal everyday baking.

Anyone here shot social scenes.
Im shooting an indoor/outdoor night event tomorrow. Any thoughts on how i light up with the flash?
Im thinking of making a diy bounce card with the top cover to catch and reflect light forward. I would like to avoid direct flash at all costs.
Suggestions?

I do. I used to use the 580EX + LumiQuest Softbox on camera - now I use the ST-E2 on-camera, and 580EX + LumiQuest Softbox off-camera.

Rain? What's that? We've had a couple of spits in the last few months, but green is not a word we use here very often...nor is "tree" or "shade" or "gentle light"

Jim G
1st of October 2008 (Wed), 04:47
For the social things I do they're only ever inside - 580EX's catchlight card pulled out, flash pointing anywhere from straight up to an angle depending on the ceiling and distance to subject, set manual mode and underexpose the ambient by a couple of stops and fire away. I usually shoot at ISO 800 or above to reduce the tax on the flash unit and since they only ever get printed 4x6 at the largest the noise is invisible. (though at 800 it's a case of "what noise?" really).

Home-made doohickey would work just as well. Just anything to throw some light forwards to get rid of the shadowed eye sockets.

Yeah, I'll pay that on the latter - several of the updates have cleared all my ratings etc. too which I had carefully put in for a few thousand songs over time which I was seriously miffed about.

Lol, yep. (On the mac version at least) you right click on the song and hit "get info". There is a tab that takes you to a box where one can put lyrics.

If you have an ipod, you can view the lyrics when you are switching between volume/position in song/rating/etc.

Angus - no way I could enter a redo of something I've already seen. The whole point of the 5 contest is to create something new and fresh ;)

I guess one could work *from* that idea, every thing's derivative, but still...it's not really in keeping with the spirit of growing as a photographer, imho.

I wasnt saying "line up 5 crayons in that order and shoot them with a .22" it was simply an idea someone with the ability to do so might want to have a play around with.

Well interestingly, less flash will give you shorter durations. At 1/1 most speedlights have a duration of around 1/800th to 1/1100th of a second. As you cut the power more, the flash duration becomes less, until say at 1/64th your flash duration is down to about 1/25000th of a second, thus a lot of those high speed action shots are done in complete darkness with low power settings on the flash.
The trick of course, is triggering it at the right time.

Better to use a larger studio strobe on lower power, still has shorter duration but gives more leeway aperture wise.

I've shot 14GB in one all-day all-night event (including briefly ducking off to a second event to get a stack of social and live shots) with the ~13mb RAW files my camera does... that's the most I've ever shot, though - there were just so many things happening that even taking a few of each and a few to be safe of various things it added up to a lot by the end of the day.

Covering something like BDO adds up to a heck of a lot, too...
