a fabric interwoven with threads of metal; "she wore a gold lame dress"You have pants made out of metal? Isn't that a little gay?

duck/clay shooting?
na, we were shooting these. Great practice for the BIF, but we just weren't in the same league as the racing plane at 230km/hr no way I could keep up with that plane. Which of the three white lens men am I?

You are the one furthest away?

We have a model plane club here that meets every Saturday morning - they are very friendly and don't mind me popping in to take pics - some of them even show off a bit for the camera.

Yup - it's good practice for BIF and air shows.

thanks, the guy with the yellow one had some awesome control skills. He kept it stationary in this position just off of the ground, only slightly rotating about the vertical axis. A club member we were chatting to said this is harder to do than fly the helicopters.

Yep, me with the shiny head. I had a slight advantage over the others, I was the only one with a 100-400. Scott and Dave had 70-200's with teles. Oh, that's right Sammy had my 70-200.

Haha, what exactly do you do for a living anyway John? Sounds important...

nah - not too important.

I advise Federal Departments on their large computer systems - and I install them and teach them how to keep them running. Because they are Federal Government, I need to be cleared by AFP for each site (why I can't have one clearance for all sites is beyond me). Lotsa paperwork and after hours work - but I get to work in most of the buildings here - and see behind the scenes.

Crackerjack was a good one, too.

And that stupid Kangaroo Jack movie - it was fun watching that with the grandkids

Left hand under the lens. Lets me support it more, especially with longer lenses (which I dont actually own any of, so its a moot point).

I forgot to mention, that's what I do. For smaller lenses on bigger bodies I will hold under the camera with my left hand if there isn't enough lens to grip.

Just thought I'd add that I can handhold the 400 2.8- resulting in a very sore back and arms. :p

for me, I don't really like many of the integrated ones.

i have a speedtouch 536v6 flashed to the thompson firmware (not Telstra) activated for Annex-M. Gets nice sync's and is supposed to be one of the most solid Annex-M modem/routers.

i bridge mine into a WRT54GS running DD-WRT r23 SP2 which looks after my wireless... the ethernet then hands off into a gigabit switch which connects all my PCs to the server (cept the laptops).

I wish I could get ADSL2+ here, but sadly I don't think I can... Telstra are meant to be providing it soon- or now.. I'll have to look. I want to stay away from Bigpond though.

Heh, hadnt noticed that before. And dont worry, my left eye is the one stuck to the viewfinder. Mostly because I cant focus on anything using just my right one. ;)

I can't use my left eye for the VF. I like to be able to see something other than the back of the camera through the other eye. It's good for tracking objects.

I tried the right eye last weekend and found it was better ergonomically (nose doesn't get in the way) but just couldn't do it. My right eye isn't strong enough to see/focus properly.

Here's a question, do you hold under the lens(fingers underneath) as with person in the foreground, or the other way around as with the second person in the above pic...

Definitely the same as the guy in the foreground. I take the whole weight of the lens in my left hand.

We had them on 3 computers to run wireless internet around the house and they would drop out every 2 mins (even if you never moved the computer) and the only way to effectivly reconnect most times was to restart the computer. The final sollution for most of our netgear stuff was to tape it to the road and run over it!

I've always used right eye as matter of habit, but also allows use of left eye to see where an object is, live - like the planes we were all madly trying to track!

Nah Netgear are ok. It's Netcomm you should avoid. Personally I recommend Linksys.

Actually Cisco are *the* gear to buy, if you can afford it. They're commercial grade stuff, so you're not supposed to turn it off or reboot it.

I know they're industrial grade stuff, we use them a fair bit. Although we had network and server issues at one site and the testing for our fixes required powering down the switches repeatedly. Try that when it takes forever to reboot one... But yes they are well regarded in the industry when they are working correctly and dont need to be touched :)

*Sorry if I'm a bit slow today, got a few VM's running here at the office, the old lappy is struggling a bit :(

You're right, but I figured (seeing he was looking at the Netgear) that he was after consumer grade.

The 87x series router from Cisco is great :)

Hi geeks,
Find me a Linksys all-in-one with ADSL modem and I'll get it - can't seem to find a wireless modem router in one on their website :(

And no, I can't afford a Cisco, I'll happily settle for poor man's Cisco (Linksys) though!

Was happy with my Netcomm DG834G but it was a nightmare to pair with a Netgear TA612V VOIP router. grrr!

AFAICT from a quick glance is that the 200 is ADSL2+ capable and the 54 isn't, so I'd go with the 200.

In my experience the DG834 is a POS, avoid it like the plague.

What's with the 2nd golf hole? I haven't even teed off on the first yet. Isn't it open until Monday, or am I too slow?

Work has been absolutely nuts. Started a 12 hour shift yesterday at 6:45, then went home at 4:30, went back in at midnight until 8 this morning. So that's, what? Something like 17 hours?

We cannot get staff. And the bloody women round here can't keep their legs together!

Got the next 5 days off though. Thank goodness. Poor old camera has been seriously neglected lately.

Ha bloody ha. I work in a maternity hospital.

Trust me, you do NOT want to be here at the moment. The increased baby bonus kicked in on the 1st July, so all the meth-heads are doing stuff to bring on labour so they can claim their $5k. Meaning lots of sick little tykes at the moment.

Combine that with flu season for staff, and I'm pretty much over it. Would love a holiday but with staffing the way it is that's not an option either.
