Hi guys, the day after tomorrow evening, a friend of mine is gonna have a concert. He asked me if I could take some pics...
So here's the question: all I have is a 17-50 2.8 and the 55-250. Is the tamron long enough? The place shouldn't be big.. what about the speed? I have no prime actually, and the 17-50 is the fastest lens I have..
Any other tips? Thank you

The 17-50 should do well if there is decent lighting.
Use high ISO, shoot Raw, and fill the CF card.
Have a look in the PA FAQ (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=226809)

I wish your 55-250 would do it, but it won't. Even with flash, you need f2.8 or better. I would sit in the front row and shoot ISO 1600 and open it up and go for it! Walk around if you need to for one song that won't distract the audience. I always sit in the front row and shoot away without flash. It's great. You should be fine if the lighting on the stage is decent. If not, can you use a flash?

No flash guys...so you think that 50mm may be enough?
Thank you!

a friend of mine is gonna have a concert. He should be able to get permission for you to walk around a bit?
For the right handed guitar guys, try to shoot from your left side of the stage. Even with flash, you need f2.8 or better. I would sit in the front row and shoot ISO 1600 and open it up and go for it!

I usually use my 28-135 IS @ 1600ISO
1/60 @ f4 looks pretty fab if they have enough lights.
If they don't have much in the way of stage lighting, then you might find that even f2.8 is a bit limiting - The audience really don't appriciate the flash going off in front of them either! ;-)
