View Full Version : Who is your favorite member?

I know this this very lame and down right bad question to ask. But the intention is to show appreciation to the members you've learnd from, and indirectely say "thank you" to them.

I'll start. For me, there are three people I take their opinion seriously:

- The Boss: Bob Gross. Yes, he has a great sense of humor too.

- Scottes: His area of expertise is not really my interest, but he is a great guy. Always helpful. Thanks Scottes.

- The technical Wiz, Jon: willing to teach and be patient with noobs (like me).

I find it hard to say who my favorite is but, here are some of my favorites. In no petciular order.

TimmyQuest, I enjoy reading his posts about breaking into the business. I wish I would have had as much of an idea of direction in my life at his age.

Scottes, just because he knows a lot of stuff.

KennyG, obviously because we both have a background in the same sport. I love to read his insights and experiences on the other side of the pond.

Then there are the ones who are just downright nice people that I am glad I have crossed paths with in cyberspace. People like TomW, Belmondo (even tho he stops here I have yet to meet him), Mikesd, CDS and Pekka who are tireless in their efforts to make this thing possible, and I know I am forgetting some but, when you hit 40 the mind begins to go, for some faster than others. If I think of anymore I will definately add to this list.

In general, this board is filled with people helping people and gaining or giving experience like I have never experienced on any board before.
All one has to do is take a look at TQ's photo contest to see the talent that exists on this board.

edit: Ok I forgot probably the first guy on here who I really connected with, Jim (RFMSports)

Now I wish I wouldn't have posted anybody because I know I am still missing 1 or 30 people.

:o:o:o blush :o:o:o Thanks guys. :o:o:o

For me, I truly feel there's too many to mention. Really. And I'd feel bad if I forgot someone after naming 30 or 40 people. There are the people that inspire me with some great pictures. The ones that teach me new Photoshop stuff all the time. Lotsa people that constantly teach me stuff about cameras and photography. A large number that just make me laugh.

My absolute favorite people here?
The ones that make it feel like home.

NOW look what you did! Ya got me all sniffly and sappy! Geez...

Belmondo

We lead a relatively sheltered life here in the desert. As a result, we really haven't met many folks since moving here. I actuallly feel I've made more good friends here in the forum than I have socially here. I've really only met a couple members in person, and they've all been wonderful foks.

I won't get sucked into the 'who's your favorite' game. As previously state, it would be too easy to forget someone, and to hurt feelings.

I actually doubt I could come up with a short list of even 25 names. THere are just too many.

Whew, thats a tough one. Since I'm still a new kid on the block how about some much deserved thank you's. Pekka, Belmondo and CyberDyneSystems, and RFM Sports, a classier group of moderaters can not be found: THANK YOU for everything you do! I would also like to thank Indyjeff who is currently helping me expand my photography buisness into youth sports. Scottes,Bob Gross, and Jon are just a few among many that have been kind enough to help a newer member out. I would also like to thank Charlesu, along with many others, for sharing his wonderful talent with us. I to have been a member of many other forums, none of which can hold a candle to the talented members who resides here. Thank you all.

The list is loooong.. very long indeed :)
Not just names. but even the various different reasons to have a "best" member...

Characters,. stalwart members,. advisors,. and brilliant photographers whom we look up to.. kind people there when you need them,. jokers with photos of duck butts,. curmudgeons who make you bristle while forcing you to grasp something new,. youngsters that are just figuring out how cool this thing can be,. the newbs that find themselves in a Twilight Zone type (X-Factor~esque) thread and maintain a perfectly strong sense of humor despite it!!!!!

Yep.. too many to list.. but fun and rewarding to try and go through it in your head :)

I'll just take this opportunity to thank:
1. Maderito for keeping my head above water on color management.
2. PacAce, and Scottes for filling in the gaps on PS.
3. Belmondo for a warm and fuzzy atmosphere.
4. CDS for his unbridled enthusiasm.
5. Robert Gross for teaching me the finer aspects of being a curmudgeon with a sense of humor and keeping me honest on my flash posts.
6. RFM Sports for his watercraft pictures that make me try harder.
7. Pekka for creating and maintaining this place.

So far in my life I've worked for 2 companies based out of The Netherlands (Randstad and Stork). Almost every one of the Dutch employees spoke English better than I did.

However, my proficient use of slang and my slight Boston accent kept them guessing. :-)

Sad... That's the best I'll do. Even if I slip CDS a Sanskrit keyboard he'll still keep typing, and we won't be able to tell the difference. And Marie has the market cornered on Purple Text and Smilies. She's got them all stocked up in her closet.

I'll never catch them.

This is the same in Denmark, I am not quite sure at what age we start to learn english. 2 years after starting english we start having german lessons! So most people in Denmark learn 2 foreign languages some even a third such as french. Al this because danish is so hard to learn.

I cut to the chase. Thanks! I am honoured. I can't pick out favourites, that just isn't my way of doing things. However, I can say there are some that have helped me along the way! To them who know who they are I thank them. They too are not forgotten but they seem to have eluded me. Although, I was the first on this forum to get the Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX and those that were around then knew how incredible I thought this lens was and I am getting better all the time. I get comment from friends that I send pics to for looking over.

I have a funny feeling I come off sometimes as a sarcastic wise guy, but it is mostly in the interest of a laugh, or when I am serious, well I hope those that have been around awhile know the difference.

You know what I am really waiting for? Summer up here in the great land...it is true that I like winter the best, but in warmer weather you don't have to worry about the bad things severe cold can do to the stuff. It has been -10F here and one can only guess what the windchill was. Although today it was in the 20s and heavy fog like I remember over in the Fens in England. Ahh the times of about 10 ft visibility! I am still waiting on winter to get here...only that one day was really cold and we shoulda had a lot more snow by this time of year. I recon we got another inch or 2 today. Weird...maybe I need to head North, but even they were having warmer weather then us. They tend to be hotter in the summer and colder in the winter. I am looking fwd to getting bald eagle pics in due time. I hear they are in abundance here. This is cool! In the meantime I will be looking for moose which are interesting to say the least.
