I would like to make a suggestion for a new photo sharing category. Children. Seems that a good portion of the images in the "People" forum are in fact children. Yes.....I understand that children are people too but there are some days that I would much rather view the portraits without having to sift through those cute shots of little Johnny with the runny nose. :)

You will quickly learn that this has been debated over and over again around here and the latest word is that it's not happening.

I can honestly say that I have never seen it debated. But with that said, since it appears that lots of folks want a separate category for children, what's the down side??

The problem is that the majority that request it is to get the children photos AWAY from people forum because THEY are tired of seeing children photos. And that is NOT the way a new forum is created.

I don't think it is so much that people don't want to see pictures of children. There are several people who post excellent photos of babies and children that I would definitely like to see. The issue is that many of the pictures of babies or children tend to be simple snapshots. Then the issue becomes who is going to determine if a picture is a serious photo or a snapshot. Then that would have to be enforced. People's feelings would be hurt if their thread got moved to the "snapshot" forum. I guess it's just not worth it.

Op says specifically "without having to sift through those " and in the poll he said "I enjoy looking at the indoor/outdoor portraits in the people category and would love to see the little ones in their own category"
That is not an indication that he wants the new forum because he loves looking at children photos. Thats because he do not want to look at them. And that way a new forum is never created.
Also what is the age limit for a child? 5, 10, 20, 50? When should a photo go in the children forum and when in the people? What if it is a family portrait with child, mom and dad and grand parents? And isn't children people too? God I feel this has been said so many times before.

I would have voted no in the poll but I see that is closed.
As Tommy said, kids are people and quite often you can spot whether the post is of kids or adults by their title.

I also suggested the same thing... and I'm actually kind of confused as to why the Moderators actually seem ANGRY about the mere suggestion.
Even though I'm sure this is like talking to a brick wall, I'm going to offer my viewpoint here.
The other threads within the Photo Sharing forum won't have the same issue (except perhaps animals and people's personal pet photos) as the People section does. People is a large category - it covers WAY too many possibilities. If you are a novice or professional and want to see other people's portrait/candid/whatever work, and you start flipping through the People forum, you will have to go through about 10 or 12 posts sometimes before you find anything OTHER than a photo of someone's child. I think the urge to share poor-quality snapshots of your own children is greater than the urge to share poor-quality snapshots that fit the other forums (and you CAN'T, in glamour).
For example, if you look at the forum's threads under Photo Sharing, you get a whole other section for Birds separate from Nature & Animals. I would guess that the bird-photographing fanatics are happy about this, as they don't have to trudge through a bunch of dogs and cats and cows to admire the work of like-minded bird photographers... yes? No? I don't know, but that seems to be logical to me.
As for having to come up with "rule" about what consitutes a "child's age", I think that's going a bit overboard. If you have a section called "Children", I think people can figure that out on their own. Give us SOME credit.
Anyway, that's my two (thousand) cents. I'm sure it will be ignored, but I feel better for saying it.

You aren't asking for it so you can post to it. You're asking for it so you don't have to lok at those posts. We do not support exclusionary practices. Birds as a separate forum was created because the birders asked for it and they were able to demonstrate a large presence in the pre-existing Wildlife forum. If there is a demand, as demonstrated by requests from large numbers of child photographers who are filling the People forum, fo a separate forum for their photos, we will consider it. If there is a request to "Get those kids out of "People" so we don't have to see them", it merits no consideration. We've explained this repeatedly, if you'd bothered to look.
