In the fresh snow from overnight . . . we took this 16th birthday shot of our neighbor, with our Pro1. Winter shots with people have always been hard, but this one turned out good enough to share.

I think this is a very nice shot. She looks so natural and relaxed in this pose sitting on the snow.:D I dont know how She managed THAT! My teeth would be chattering.;)

Good example of a winter portrait. Nicely done.

Did you have to up the exposure a stop or two to get the snow white?

Well Done.

Yeah she's posing like that because she's frozen and can't actually move..

It looks challenging to get that sort of shot right, but I think you've done a good job on this one.

Thank you one and all . . . the exposure was left as is, it was very overcast and started snowing within the hour of the shot. As to the frozen part . . . lol we are just used to the cold and snow and deal with it. Most of my year would be very, very drab should one choose to give in to bad weather. All weather is good, something new to shoot every day.

I am only a newbie but the hair looks a little over saturated to me. Was this post processing? I am really not being critical. Just trying to learn.

Nice shot, very pretty girl. Looks like some USM was used though. I agree snow is tough to take photos in.

Not on my lowly laptop, but you have me curious. I'm going to have to see this again on my big CRT. To my untrained eye, the colors look nearly perfect.

Lovely shot under difficult conditions.

The black and white points were set in PSCS curves and the blue was tugged a little to take a cast out. I do not dare use USM . . . lol. I don't know how to use it yet. Being this was shot with our Canon Pro1, it might be done in the camera? We are very basic in our post processing skill as of yet. Anyone who would like to share a value or 'numbers' to try, I would love to hear and learn same. It seems that my new 20D is not as sharp as as the Pro1.

On the hair color . . . what color is a woman's hair anyway . . . lol? To me it looks like her, is it not right for the shot? Thanks to all who took the time to comment.

As for the hair appearing color-saturated, there are probably two reasons:
1) The rest of the scene is pretty monochromatic, so any color will seem greater.
2) Reducing the blue to get rid of the cast will cause the yellows to seem emphasized.

I think the shot is great the way it is, but you could always play with the overall saturation level in Photoshop! Regardless, I bet she will cherish the photo throughout her life, and that's ultimately the point.
