So I dropped my SD600 in the airport (in the case even) on our first day of vacation and the lens would not open from then on (luckily I had my 40D with me). When I returned home I took the camera in to a Ritz and was told that it would cost ~$165 to get it repaired and to no surprise, my warranty was up. I asked why so much and was told that the repair shop replaces the entire lens assembly instead of trying to fix the existing one. The recommendation that I got was to actually buy a whole new camera, even though the SD600 was 1.5 years old!

Anyway, I decided to go home and do some research about fixing the lens myself and came across the following article (http://www.avh.dds.nl/Fix-Canon-SD600-Lens-Error/). I was able to fix the lens by rotating the lens motor clockwise a few rotations until it freely moved. The camera lens now extends and opens with no problems other than a grinding noise.

One thing the article does not cover is the front and rear cover removal procedure. There is a clip on the top middle of the covers that hold the front and back together. I ended up bending the metal clip not knowing it was there but I believe it can be avoided it you put pressure on the rear cover over the spot. The last image in the article shows the clip and I've edited a pdf that is attached for it.

I hope this helps anybody having lens issues.
