10D hands down!

Wow,.. this thread title gave me flashbacks!
To elaborate a little,. the 300D and 10D share the same image sensor or "CMOS" sensor and are essentially capable fo the same image quality.
The 10D however should be considered the 300D's "older brother",.. it has superior functions, speed, timings, etc... it has features that the 300D lacks.
Hope this helps.

As CDS points out, the 10D and 300D share some components but the 10D is better built and has extra functionality. The 10D is the "better camera" by that measure.

No they don't! there's not even 1 part the same in the 300D except for some screws maybe,;) (i've taken them apart a lot;) )
but i agree with you guys on the better quality with the 10D

The image sensor should be identical on the 10D and Drebel.

but i agree with you guys on the better quality with the 10DI notice that your collection of equipment includes both a 300D and a 10D: I realise that the 10D is more solidly built - for many users perhaps unnecessarily so ? (although presumably the 300D is not exactly fragile ?!) but when comparing photos taken with each, using the same lens - and within the limitations of the 300D - would there be a difference?
I don't doubt the kit lens for the 10D is better though.
Guess what - I have a 300D + 18-55mm kit lens:lol:

Although picture quality is an important consideration, the quality of the camera's build (ruggedness, ergonomics, etc.) and it's overall capabilities are important as well. In this the 10D excels over the 300D.

One point to add;
Doesn't the Digital Rebel (300D) allow using the new Lens standard EF-S
while the 10D is limited to using only EF lens.

"Internally, the camera's 6.3-megapixel CMOS sensor captures the same maximum
resolution of 3072x2048 pixels as the 10D, with two JPEG compression levels and a RAW
format. Exposure control is very similar to the 10D as well, although minus a few
features -- and the 300D continues to operate and feel much like its 35mm EOS cousins.
With an updated optical design created specifically for the digital format, the new
18-55mm f3.5-5.6 EF-S lens is lighter and more compact than the rest of the EF lens
series. Based on my testing, it appears that the reduced back-focus distance and
smaller image circle of the EF-S design has allowed Canon to achieve an unusually high
level of optical quality in an inexpensive lens."

Good point,.. and yes this is true.
I don't know if I would call the EF lens series "limiting" though ;) (just kidding) :)

the nr of megapixels is the same but the sensor isn't

and the 10D doesn't come with a kitlens, the 300D was the first with EF-S compatability and now the 20D also has it.
i'll have some pictures in the next hour or so!
i'll have to take my cameras apart to let you guys see the sensors.

I'd say get the 300D especially if it's your first camera. I recently bought my 300D and was debating to get the 10D instead but still kept the 300D.
Personally, I like it being a lighter weight because I hate lugging heavy things around.
try rock-climbing with heavy weight on your back.

do it? It would make sensor cleaning so much
easier!

you think cleaning the sensor is easier by taking the camera apart???
i think it's easier to do it from the outside ;)

EosD30freak,
Great shotos documenting the guts of the cameras! :)
Very nice indeed,.. it truly looks as if the assemblies around the CMOS itself are different.. we understand that the eloctronics on the "digic" processor boards are differrent..
Still,. I understand that the CMOS is still the same from 10D to 300D,. .. despite the different housings. The wafer itself is the same CMOS chip rolling off of the same Fabrication line. I would guess that many other similarities that may exist between the two camera also would exist on the chip level.. ie: different "motherboards" (for lack of a better term).. but many of the same processors and ICs on those boards.
Your a brave man! I've taken a lot of things apart in my day.. but I think I'll draw the line here! ;)

i agree with you on the ic's and stuff. and also some parts from the Cmos will probably be the same like you said. but what i wanted to show was that it's a very different camera then people think.
a lot of people think that parts of the 10D are interchangeble with the 300D but that's not possible :D
