A lot of complaining goes on about vendors so I thought I whould give my experience with Dell.. In Dec I ordered a Dell 1150 laptop. P4, 2.8 ghz, 40 gig HD and what I thought was a DVD burner. Yesterday I tried for 4 hours to make it write to a DVD. It would read the DVD but would not erace, write or format a DVD. :( This morning I called Dell tech support and talked to an excellent tech who advised me that I had not ordered a DVD burner as I had thought. It was a CD burner and DVD reader :? Now I gotta have a DVD,, CD just way too small for my backups. So I called Dell sales to order the correct DVD. To make a long story short, Dell is sending me the correct DVD free of any charge at all !!!!! Wow, they didn't have to do anything other than take a $200 order. I made the mistake and they are fixing it FREE!!! WOW This is my 3rd PC from Dell and every experience was as good as this one. Well I didn't get anything free the last 2 times but still great service in all areas!!
Just my experience

I find Dell to be a very good online retailer when it comes to returns and exchages.

I've had nothing but good deals from Dell, Last year a high end Laptop for the road no problems as of yet.
This year the 24-70f/2.8 came in ahead of time fully boxed and ready to go. Still waiting on the Axim should be here in a couple of days.
I know they're getting bigger and some problems may occur but so far so good with me.

I've bought 5 Dells (never the cheap line) in a row now. Perfect? No. Ultra Fast? No. Stable? Very. Good support? They've always done excellent by me. 5 dells in 8 years, always 3 running at once... 1 drive was about to die (after 2.5 years), 1 video card died (after a year) and that was it. All the rest was easily handled by me or my wife because Dell takes good care of the knowledge base, drivers, etc.
Now I really want a nice AlienWare... But that's in a different category.

Dell also for many many years was allways rated HIGHEST in customer service for Computers.
Things have indeed changed,. they are much larger and continue to expand there product line... however. I';d still take a Dell of most any other "name brand" computer out there.
mmm,.. Alien ware... grauuuldroool...
But even they are changing.. I mean if you can buy them at Best Buy.. then your bound to find a way to have a problem with them!

I ordered a Dell 2001FP 20" LCD on 01.01.05 @ $799.00 - 25% off coupon w/free shipping for a grand total of $638.20
The day it arrived, Dell's website dropped the price on that monitor to $599.25. I emailed Dell CS and asked them to review the price. I received an email back in about an hour:
Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care. I apologize for the inconvenience this issue may have caused. While Dell does not have a price protection policy, Dell realizes that prices and components change very rapidly in the computer industry.
As a courtesy to our customers, Dell will compare the most current price available to that of which was paid at the time of the order. If the system price drop is $50 or more the amount will be refunded back to the original payment method. Please note that the price protection policy is only for the system orders. In appreciation of you being a valued Dell Customer, I can offer you a $50.00 credit. If this is acceptable to you I request you to please get back to me so that I may initiate a manual credit request so as to refund you $50.00 as promised.
Once again, I apologize and truly regret any inconvenience or frustration this matter may have caused. We value you as our customer and your satisfaction is very important to us. I hear that those who called in experienced the [now] typical hour on hold and multiple transfers and that it resulted in a 'discount toward' a future purchase.
I'm pleased with this 20" LCD for $588.20. A little searching can reward a diligent googler with a 25% off LCD coupon and bag this stellar monitor for $449.00 pre ship/tax.
*BTW, the Dell 2001FP uses the same panel as the Viewsonic VP201B. Anandtech has rated it as the best 20" LCD for gaming since its debut. I use the VP191b Viewsonics and am quite spoiled. I plugged in the Dell 2001FP last night and realized that I didn't really know what 'spoiled' was ;).

Because I own Dell stock ... :D
That's a pretty good reason. For me, its because they usually deliver before the tracking data is caught up.
