Did another concert shoot for a friends band. I don't get paid for these shots, I just use this as a learning expierence. The lighting last night was very horrible. But I'll share some shots anyway :o None of these have been edited, just resized and lowered in quality to save bandwidth.

The singer.

The drummer (very hard to get without a tele lens)

Two of the guitarist and the singer, focused incorrectly.

This shot would've been really nice with better lighting, and no mic stand.

That's all for now, I need to go through and see which ones actually came out, and which ones need to be deleted.

I also shoot a lot of shows with bad light and understand.... I do.
What is your set-up? Gear, etc.

50mm 1.8 lens

I'm too broke to buy anything else right now :o

The previous show I did (same band, same venue) had much better lighting.

I guess I should add, if anyone wants to get a feel for the music that this band sings, clips are available www.systemfailuremusic.com

I too used that set up for several months before upgrading to the 20D. I really loved it actually. That lens works great and has gotten me through many tough lighting situations. I think your shots actually look pretty good. Me, I always just push that ISO up to 800, shoot wide open and a 1/60th shutter speed and hope for the best!
I have since passed that exact set up onto my son who as also begun shooting shows.
Isn't it just too much fun?

Indeed it is. I also know the band personally, so it makes it that much better ;)

Neutral...I wouldn't be toohard on your photos. Sounds very much like rock'n'roll photography as usual to me.

You've done very well in difficult conditions! What was your ISO setting? The images look pretty noise-free indicating a low ISO. I reckon you could have probably gotten away with a higher setting.

Some are 400 and some are 800.

One of the advantages I had, was how close I was to the stage, which allowed me to shoot at a lower ISO.

They look very good for the poor conditions. Nothing to be ashamed of. :)

Nice pics, you did very well, especially given the bad lighting :)
