I must say that I am impressed with this cameras's handling of backlit
subjects http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=394119

Wish I could come to terms with some IS problems though.

Seems a bit hit and miss at times..could the camera warm-up
time be responsible for blurry pictures.?

I'd be more inclined to suspect too slow a shutter speed for the focal length in use, but you do need to give the IS system time to get up to speed. IS isn't a miracle worker, and it's only active while (for the IS lenses for the EOS, at least) you're partially depressing the shutter release. Otherwise, it'd devour batteries.

Joe, I looked at your exif data out of curiosity because I've been to Cairns in the month of November some years back and wanted to find out the exact time the photo was taken as a way to figure out what direction I'm facing as I look at it. I'm guessing maybe north northeast. However the time on the exif data seems to give me a time of 2:15am. Are you using another time system?

Anyway, nice photo. To my eyes the focus seems just fine.
