Not the best composition on this shot, It kind snuck up on me. But I like the irony of the shot. A very active rail line (freight and passanger) and a boarded up station. so sad :cry:

I'm finding this a hard one

you say it's an active line for freight and passenger but the station is closed.

there must be a bigger and better station just further on
and it was found to be, for more economical reasons,that keeping only certain stations open was better ?

that happens here also

No bigger and better station, just an open platform futher down the line. No not my wagon the one parked next to me, I was about to go into the sandwich shop to buy some lunch and said maybe that would be a good photo :rolleyes: then when I came out the train was going by so I jumped in the van drove to a better position jumped out and snapped the first photo. :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :lol: :lol:

Didn't see the engine on that consist. the line is under the National Passenger something, Manly Amtrak, however CSX bought out must of the frieght portion, it was formerly the New York, New Haven and Hartford. thats the Windsor Locks, CT Station.

Great shot.

There's another dinosaur in that shot thay might not be apparent to most people. The SP boxcar bears the insignia of a now-defunct railroad that was swallowed up by the Union Pacific a few years ago.

Nice picture. It's interesting how much people see in a shot like that. Do you know of any plans to save the building? I worked on the rehab design for a station in Windsor about 20 years ago. Far as I know its still in use but I haven't been by it in years.

I worked on the site design for that project, the entire Multi-Model Transportation Facility, The station is still there, here is a photo of the Freight house which was also rehabed with the train station, you can see the porch rails of the station in the photo. I'm still with the engineering dept. so I see it every day. :lol: :lol:

One end is a waiting room for the commuter bus (seldom used) the rest of the freight is rented from the town by ride share same for the Station. Somewhere I have some photos of the Station I had some good before and after but I can't find those Maybe easier on Monday to just walk over and take a few more of the Station and area. :lol: :lol:

I'd like to see some current shots, and some befores if you can find them. I was helping out another engineer on that project while I was getting my business off the ground so I never became too familiar with it. Never got inside it. Years later I was involved with a study on another nearby building to convert it into a brew pub. The project died so I don't know what happened to the building. Any ideas?

It might have been one of two Connecticut lines, Either CSOR (Conn. Southern) or Guilford Rail system
